Mel Gibson

Oksana's Legal Cash Cow

1/27/2011 10:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

It's a good thing Mel Gibson is rich, because he's bleeding green.  Oksana Grigorieva's lawyers are asking him to pay a fortune in attorney's fees.

A gaggle of Oksana's present and past lawyers showed up in court Wednesday, chatting in the hallway about fees and asking Judge Scott Gordon to order Mel to open his wallet wide and fork over several million dollars .... for just a few months' work.

Here's a partial breakdown:

-- Oksana's current lawyers, Daniel Horowitz, Marty Garbus and Ron Litz, are asking for $1.2 million for work performed since September, 2010.

-- Manley Freid's law firm is asking for $250,000.  Mel has already been ordered to pay Freid's firm $500,000.

-- Alan Shifman wants $163,000 for one month's work.

Other lawyers and law firms requested hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees as well.

Judge Gordon has not decided how much Mel should pay in the latest request.

Sincerity

I believe Mel has the right to ask for a review of her Lawyers Bills if he believes they are charging him injustly or for work that is outside the scope of their mandate...

I suspect that when all of these invoices are examined closely, there will be quite a bit of overlap and redundancies. It will be interesting to know how much of the Horowitz & Garbus invoice will be approved for payment considering that neither attorney was certified to practice family law to begin with. If I'm not mistaken, weren't these two clowns suppose to be doing pro bono work for Ole Greedy???

LA me

I worked for attornies in the 80's. Used to input their time sheets into the billing. Came across quite a few of them logging in 26+ hours in one day spread across several clients. They also bill for copies, faxes, looking at a phone message and thinking about the case, Actual phone calls, talking about the client in passing conversations...all billed in 15 minute increments. Brought it up to the parners in the firm. The just shrugged and smiled. One of the offenders was promted to partner the next year. Thats how it works!

I found that out some years ago LA. Hired a solicitor to do some relatively simple paperwork. If I'd been warned how much he would charge me for photo-copying I would have stood there pushing the button myself!

But back to the lowers...... Is Judge Gordon waiting to hear the results of the extortion investigation before he decides on their payment? I hope so.

Ah! Just like buying something from China on Ebay. You "win" the item for 99cents and they charge you $299 for delivery. What a rort!
