Cops: Wrestler Was 'Belligerent,' Arrest Was Warranted

3/7/2011 6:15 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

A rep for the Columbus PD tells TMZ they feel they had every right to arrest former WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard this weekend ... saying the video TMZ posted earlier doesn't tell the whole story.

As TMZ previously reported, Gaspard was popped by Columbus PD for allegedly jaywalking and the video of his arrest shows three officers pinning him down while he, and several onlookers, tried to tell them he did nothing wrong.

Sgt. Rich Weiner, a rep for the Columbus PD, tells TMZ the police report says Gaspard was observed by an officer walking in the roadway and obstructing traffic. He says Gaspard ignored an officer's request to get out of the street and refused to provide the officer with ID when asked several times.

Sgt. Weiner says, according to the report, the officer then tried to arrest Gaspard, but he "broke free from the officers as they attempted to take him into custody."

The video we posted begins sometime after that, which Weiner says "does not show the events which led to Mr. Gaspard being put on the ground and being placed in handcuffs."

Ask yourselves this, whey didn't he just produce his ID. If he had, he may have been on his marry way. But no, just another person that thinks the law gives citizens the right to do what they want. Sorry, but your all wrong when you say the police were in the wrong.

We do not have to show our ID or papers in the USA while we are walking on a public street, there are still some freedoms we have.

I've met Shad before and he's gotta be the least "black" black man you'll ever meet. He's the nicest guy, has no chip on his shoulder, no nothing. I seriously doubt he did what they're claiming he did. If he jaywalked, thats one thing. He's from Brooklyn and in NYC we cross where ever we want. But for him to do anything worth being arrested, no chance in hell.

These cops are idiots just like most cops. They always have a BS excuse to cover up their crimes. In my lifetime I've never heard a cop say..."Gee...I messed up. I shot the wrong guy"...it'll never happen. Cops have what they call..." A code of silence". Cops are stupid. They know that people know they're full of it...but yet they still lie. There's always an excuse..."He lunged at me, He pulled a knife out"... blah, blah, blah. I'd trust and respect cops if they were honest. If a cop came out in public and said "I messed up and jacked an innocent guy"... I'd stand up and applaud the cop for their honesty. But that will NEVER happen because cops are s***. Just pure s***.

Police officers often try to set people up.
They also try to violate people's constitutional rights when they think they can get away with it.

Anyone who doubts this has never had contact with police officers and lives in a ( white) bubble.

A lot of cops are macho meatheads who somehow managed to outwit the tests that are designed to weed out bad apples.

Common sense should tell you that there is something wrong with police going through that much trouble to arrest a black man for J-walking.

Ya know, just because a cop said it doesn't mean it's a lie. I think you are all too damned predictable.

How can you possibly compare this to Rodney King? The guy was not beat up by police!! The police asked him to provide his identification - the guy refused, and started getting "mouthy". I got stopped last week for speeding, and the last thing I would tell the cop (when he asked for my ID and insurance) was "Am I not allowed to drive while being black?" I'm so tired of hearing that stupid response from other blacks!!!!! GRRRRRRR!

Any time a police officer directs you, stops you or questions you they are within their rights to so. If you refuse to follow the police officers request you can be charged with resisting.

The law states that when a police officers directs your movement, stops your movement or by actions controls your movement you are in his custody. While in police custody if you do not comply with the officers requests you can be charged.

"If you feel an officer had no merit to detain or direct you, then you have the right to contest the action before a judge. You do NOT have a right to resist arrest under ANY cir***stances.

Know you're rights. If you resist arrest you will be charged for it even if the initial cause for police intervention was unwarrented." Mike (Post #11)

WRONG!

A peace officer can ask for you to stop. A CIVILIAN MAY ASK IF HE OR SHE IS BE DETAINED. If the answer is no the civilian can keep on moving....but if you are being detained comply and say nothing. Mike you are partially right...now YOUR rights!
