Gilbert Gottfried

Fired by Aflac

Over Japan Tweets

3/14/2011 6:55 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Gilbert Gottfried was fired by Aflac from his gig as the voice of its duck mascot in the wake of his controversial series of tweets about the earthquake in Japan.

Gilbert Gottfried Fired Aflac
The company released a statement saying, "Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac ... Aflac will immediately set plans in motion to conduct a nationwide casting call to find a new voice of the iconic Aflac Duck."

Attempts to reach Gottfried were not successful.

Thank you Aflac... I hope others will do the same and show celebrities if you could call him one to think before they speak and jokes should not be made about something so tragic.

Finally, a company with balls and concern for decency.

Bubbles The Chimp

Gilbert is a squinty eyed idiot. How this guy has a entertainment career is a mystery.

It raises the question, does Gilbert have Aflac? You know, to cover expenses ordinary insurance doesn't after you stay stupid **** and get fired as the voice of a duck.

@ Bobby Smith - sure, we still have the freedom to say whatever we want and AFLAC has the freedom to terminate a representative of theirs as well! THAT is the beauty of free speech! I respect anyone's right to say what they want - but that doesn't mean everyone will LIKE it...we can voice our responses too, and vote with our wallets. I respect what AFLAC did. It was their right to do that.

Hyper sensitive D bags everywhere. Now insult comics are not allowed to throw heavy punches. More politically correct trash living coming in the future.

Where's KOOKY?

AFLAC are morons - they are killing off one of the best advertising icons in years - AFLAC is the one bringing bad light unto themselves not through Gilbert.

AFLAC - never had it, never will.

Tastless jokes yes, fireable offence, NOT

There Goes My Show, AFLAC said in its press release that their famous duck WILL live on, as the company will begin a search for a new "voice" immediately.

A poll perhaps as to who may be next to implode their career? I mean really, what is going on?

the people "offended" by his jokes are morons. Yes, you, if you are offended by a joke you are a moron.

Oh, I thought Gotfired was asian. Is it really necessary to do a NATIONWIDE search to find someone to quack like a 3 year old? Why not just ditch that whole stupid ad campaign.
Gilbert should be locked up in that moldy Friar's Club.

Wow really? Gilbert is known as an offensive comedian. Why didn't they fire Gilbert three years ago when he called Obama the N word? Aflac, just another dinosaur company that doesn't get "it"

Those in the "IN" comedy crowd like Jerry Seinfeld, David Letterman & Kathy Griffin think they can say or do any tasteless thing and that it's funny.

This is a person who feels his humor can be used to insult and then expects to simply say...ONLY A JOKE. He is far from humorous in most cases. Good for AFLAC.

What has his jokes have to do with that f@%king duck?

1317 days ago

Sorry, those aren't jokes. And they aren't funny. There is such a thing as compassion, and it has nothing to do with being PC...they are still pulling bodies out of the ocean and debris. If it happened to your family, I doubt you'd be laughing. Like I said before, he has the right to say it and the company who hired him HAS THE RIGHT TO FIRE HIM. Hypocrites much? You defend his rights and no one elses? hmmmm....oh and the name calling. Last time I checked, only people with no actual basis for an opinion do that. Easy way out vs. some kind of intellect. Seriously, you are contradicting yourself.
