'Celeb Apprentice' Star Begins Prison Sentence

5/2/2011 10:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Former "Survivor" champion Richard Hatch is now officially inmate #05559-070 at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn ... where a few days ago, he began his 9 month prison stint for not paying taxes on his prize money.

Richard Hatch Jail

TMZ spoke with  Federal Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Traci Billingsley -- who confirmed Hatch checked in on April 29 ... and is expected to be released on December 12, 2011.

Hatch -- who was recently fired on this season's "Celebrity Apprentice" -- made a public plea to raise enough cash to pay off his debt, but his words apparently fell upon deaf ears.

Hmmmm, wonder if you took a poll, how many people would be HAPPY to go to jail for 9 months for a million dollars. Might surprise you!

We are glad you chimed in at last: we were just missing the usual rape joke.

Just because he went to jail for not paying his taxes doesn't mean he never has to file and pay taxes again.

This guy refuses to pay the old taxes or even file the paperwork.

And here's a lesson for you stupid people: just because you go to jail for not paying your taxes doesn't mean they are paid when you get out! You still have to pay. Jail time does not equal payment. And if you continue to not pay you will go back over and over until you do pay or make arrangements to pay. Ignoring the back taxes does not make them go away!

Fool the IRS, shame on you...

Idiot. Maybe he'll learn his lesson the second time around.

The terms of his release stipulated that he had to re-file his taxes (for those years he failed to report his winnings/earnings) within a year of being released. He never filed, so he goes back for nine more months. Now, the IRS plans to garnish his wages after he's released, because they're not too sure he will ever re-file and pay up. Hatch keeps expecting to get out of it the easy way, by having someone else pay it for him. He's a piece of work, that one. What I don't get is, why doesn't the show just hold back what the IRS is supposed to receive so this doesn't happen? I'm surprised this failure to report or pay hasn't happened more often. It was silly of him to think he could get away with it, though. He was the very first winner of a million dollars and then he went on to other paid gigs, due to his notoriety...also money he didn't claim on his taxes. He says he had a "deal" with the Survivor producers that they would pay his taxes for him, but the money he received for work done after that show wasn't reported, either. He's just a flake.

He's a freaking idiot!!! Where does he get off asking for the public's help in his financial woes, he got himself in his situation I can't even stand to look at the man (if that's what you wanna call a man). I also agree with Miglet.....let all the politicians AND the immigrants who come over to the US pay their share of taxes as well!!
