Hooray For 'Hollywood': Michael Jackson Tops Dance/Club Play Songs
by Gary Trust

Michael Jackson leads Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart for the first time in almost 16 years, as "Hollywood Tonight," from his posthumous album "Michael," rises 2-1.

With the coronation, the late King of Pop collects his eighth solo No. 1 on the survey, tying him with Enrique Iglesias for most leaders among men in the chart's 35-year history. Prince follows with seven toppers.

Madonna leads all artists with 40 Dance/Club Play Songs No. 1s, followed by Jackson's sister Janet (19). Jackson, who passed away June 25, 2009, had last ruled with Janet when their duet "Scream" led the weeks of July 15 and 22, 1995.

(Iglesias had claimed a solo share for most Dance/Club Play Songs among solo males when "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)," featuring Ludacris and DJ Frank E, topped the Feb. 5, 2011, tally. "I am such a big fan of both Prince and Jackson, and to be included in this elite group of artists is such an honor," Iglesias told Billboard at the time. "I've been reading Billboard since I was a child and I'm very proud to be part of music history").

Jackson's 15-year, 11-month break between No. 1s marks the chart's longest since Cyndi Lauper ended a 24-year, three-month gap between "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" (March 24, 1984) and "Same Ol' Story" (June 28, 2008). (Lauper didn't have to wait long for her next No. 1; "Into the Nightlife" followed "Story" to the summit the week of Aug. 30, 2008).

Here is a recap of Jackson's eight solo Dance/Club Play Songs No. 1s; he first dominated as a member of the Jacksons, with "Forever Came Today" (four weeks, 1975) and "Lovely One"/"Can You Feel It"/"Walk Right Now" (one week, 1980). (Previously, combinations of album cuts were eligible to chart as one entry).

Title, Date reached No. 1, Weeks at No. 1
"Thriller (all cuts)," Jan. 22, 1983, 11 weeks
"Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin' (Too Good to Be True)" (Jermaine Jackson & Michael Jackson), June 9, 1984, three weeks
"Bad (Remix)," Nov. 7, 1987, two weeks
"The Way You Make Me Feel," Jan. 30, 1988, one week
"In the Closet," June 13, 1992, one week
"Who Is It," May 22, 1993, one week
"Scream" (Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson), July 15, 1995, two weeks
"Hollywood Tonight," June 11, 2011, one week (to-date)

All charts will be refreshed Thursday (June 2) on Billboard.com

Jackson sparked speculation about the state of his nose after a rare close-up shot of his face was circulated around the globe.

Pictures of Jackson without his mask during a breach of contract trial in Santa Barbara starkly revealed the result of 20 years of plastic surgery.

The bridge of his nose was covered with a sticking plaster and the tip appeared to be scarred, bruised and flaking.

One cosmetic surgeon said it looked as if his nose had disintegrated.

"You have to put in a support structure, like a tent pole," Santa Monica surgeon Dr Harvey Zarem told the New York Daily News.

"This could have been a restoration of the tip using cartilage, bone or plastic."

Cosmetic surgeon Dr Gerald Imber said: "Clearly, he had some sort of nasal-tip disaster."

The tissue probably broke down after the singer had a support put in, he explained.

"Now, it looks like he has skin grafts of something to close it up."

He said a collapsed nose was very rare, and he had not seen one in 15,000 operations.

One surgeon even put out a statement denying any responsibility for the state of the star's face.

"Dr Steven Hoefflin has not done any of Michael Jackson's nasal surgery since 1998, and had advised him against any further surgery," said a lawyer for the Santa Monica doctor.

The reclusive pop star is being sued for $30 million by his long-time promoter, Marcel Avram, for allegedly backing out of two millennium concerts scheduled for New Year's Eve 1999.

Jackson maintains that it was Avram, not himself, who cance lled the shows over concerns they would not be profitable.

The singer arrived in court four hours late and then asked the judge to delay next week's scheduled testimony so he could travel to Germany to accept an award.

"The award is of deep importance to me; it's philanthropic," he told Superior Court Judge Zel Canter. "I've done a lot of work for children." Two books seized by police from Michael Jackson's bedroom that showed pictures of naked boys have been used in evidence at the singer's trial in California.

Los Angeles police took them in 1993 during an investigation into abuse allegations made by Jordy Chandler, who was later awarded a multi-million dollar out-of-court settlement.

The first book was called Boys Will Be Boys, and the cover showed fair-haired boys wearing swimming trunks jumping into a pool. It was signed by Jackson himself, and said: "Look at the true spirit of happiness and joy in these boys' faces, this is the spirit of boyhood, a life I've never had and will always dream of. This is the life I want for my children."

Written in small letters on the same page were the words "very scarce," possibly a reference to the book's 1960...s vintage. Another notation said that the book was out of print.

The second, The Boy: A Photographic Essay, featured many pictures of boys in various states of undress. It also contained an inscription that said: "To Michael from your (heart symbol) fan, XXXOOO, 'Rhonda'." The note was dated 1983.

The court in Santa Maria, California, was also shown the related search warrant and a picture of the cabinet from which they were taken.

Earlier, the defence had unsuccessfully argued that the books were irrelevant to the current case and would unfairly prejudice the jury. Mr Jackson's lawyer, Robert Sanger, said it was "just plain stale" to introduce such old evidence. "The books were kept in a locked cabinet and there is no evidence that any of the books were shown to any of the people in any of the cases," he said.

Prosecutors said that one book contained about 90 per cent pictures of nude boys and the other, about 10 per cent.

This is more or less the point I wanted to make.

How many pedophiles do we know of in the history of the world who displayed the same behavior pattern as Michael Jackson?

Pretty much all of them.

How many non-pedophiles in the history of the world have displayed the same behavior pattern?

No one but Michael Jackson to my knowledge.

I think the odds are pretty heavy that the guy was getting his jollies in one form or another from having those kids around. I would say the odds are heavy enough to all but exclude every other explanation if we can't find even one other example in the entire history of humanity that displayed the same behavior.

There are lots of ways pederasts can get their fix. It may have been as simple as him having a camera in the bathroom or just having close physical contact that he could remember and fantasize about later on.

Maybe some of the parents tried to shake him down or extort him as well. What else would you expect from the kind of people who would let their children have a sleepover with a grown man in exchange for a Rolex? This is how a pedophile could screen for people who would likely have a lot of issues if anything ever went to trial. Normal people of decent morals wouldn't do such a thing (nor would people of even average intelligence) so you could be pretty sure you could impeach these particular parent's testimony at trial. You wouldn't have to set a detective up to look into them in advance. They would screen themselves. You get a passel of kids and keep moving the line a little further until they or their parents balk. You only go over the line with the ones who pass the screening. When they get old enough to no longer be of interest you have another batch at the ready.

Neverland would be the perfect mechanism to move kids through and provide cover. If he wasn't a pedophile he did everything exactly as a rich, powerful and intelligent pedophile would have done... except for the part where he consummates his efforts. I am not buying that for a second. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/archive/index.php/t-523547.html lol

of course, mj possessed no bad behavior outside of enabling the mental breakdown of emotionally crippled parents and kids.
wear flowery shirts, red lipstick, change your face, act as a poor, naive, childish, half-female mother and pretend all kids were trustworthy and godlike. the stupid troubled kids were manipulated with gifts and money...
mj built a religious cult for imbeciles... the only fool was him.
