Lindsay Shuts Down

Matt Lauer Interview

IN HIS FACE

6/22/2011 12:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lindsay Lohan pulled the plug on Matt Lauer last night, just before cameras were supposed to roll for her big sit-down interview.

NBC sources tell TMZ ... Lauer flew to L.A. yesterday, and showed up at Lindsay's Venice loft around 6 PM.

We're told Lindsay was actually in the makeup chair when things went south.  Sources close to Lindsay tell TMZ ... Lauer's team blindsided them by saying the interview would be extremely lengthy because producers were planning to put it on "Dateline" as well as "Today."

Lindsay kicked up her heels, saying she was told it would only be a 15-minute interview, and refused to sit for anything longer.  The two sides began arguing -- to no avail -- and then Matt just packed up and left.

We're told before Lindsay made her decision, she consulted her publicist, Steve Honig, who agreed it was not the right time to do a televised and in depth interview. Once Lindsay decided to call it off,  Honig broke the news to Lauer.

Our NBC sources say producers made it clear to Lindsay and her people before Matt even got on the plane that the interview would be lengthy ... because it was servicing two shows.

Matt was not on "Today" today, and he's just about to land back in the Big Apple.

At least he got some AAdvantage miles out of it.

Phuckett,

Maybe YOU did not read the story, as Matt clearly stated that his people DID tell Lindsay Liar in advance that it would be a lengthy interview.

And - of course - we know Lindsay's track record for telling the truth.

And she loves enabling sukkers like you who believe any shizz she spits out her arse.

----

Sorry buddy but i know NBC and Dateline's record for telling the truth too. It sucks, but go right ahead and believe any shizz they spit out their ass.

Do I detect a familiar pattern here? Namely playing the BLAME GAME when LINDSAY screws up?

Today's victim: Matt Lauer and NBC. Until she's ready to use them.

You people are so transparent and pathetic. If she had given the interview you would all be lambasting her for doing interviews and shamelessly promoting herself while under house arrest. the nerve of her! /sarcasm

I guess the Today Show literally ran out of stories if they wanted to interview this loser. It's incredible that an "actress" struggling for some kind of comeback would turn down a chance to answer some soft ball questions on national TV. I can't imagine a better PR opportunity for someone in her shoes. Hopefully next time the Today Show will realize that interviewing a rock would make better TV.

Show me where "Dateline" NBC has ever done a softball interview with a controversial figure and not done a biased hatchet job on them? That's their shtick...

After viewing her internet "commercial" I doubt she could do an interview at this point, no matter what the length.

I do think it was wise of her publicist not to do the interview if she is drinking or taking drugs, and not in the right frame of mind. I'll give him credit for that.

Sounding more and more like Lindsay Lohan and Amy Winehouse are born from the same cloth...

Don't think she's mentally capable of over 15 mins. of conversation.

After seeing Kanye she didn't want to be subjected to embarassment. He tends to be a jerk Lauer. And no one has to go through that.

Lindsay had no problem doing the interview, it was the in depth and personal nature she was unsure about. She was advised by her publicist, in those cir****tances, not to do the interview. Lindsay was right to have doubt and Steve Honig was right to advise her against it.

TMZ as usual try to over dramatise what actually happened. Matt Lauer will talk about it soon.
