Canadian 'Cash Cab' Car Involved in Fatal Accident

7/16/2011 2:28 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A production car from the Canadian version of the game show "Cash Cab" was involved in an accident in Vancouver early this morning that left a pedestrian dead ... TMZ has learned.

Cash Cab
Filming had finished for the night when the car -- a production vehicle being driven by a producer for the show -- struck a 61-year-old man. A police spokeswoman told the Vancouver Sun the man was taken to a nearby hospital, but died a short time later.

Andrew Burnstein -- President of Castlewood Productions, which produces the show -- tells TMZ, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and his family. My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team."

Burnstein says the driver and the rest of the production team are cooperating with Vancouver Police. So far, no charges have been filed.

This show is usually out of NYC, Toronto and Montreal, I've never seen it from Vancouver. Might be 'rookies' who got distracted.

i don't think you should do a game show and drive imo

(we all might not agree but we have the freedom to share)

Geez, people, don't jump in with all these assumptions that the TV part of the job distracted them. I checked "real" media in Vancouver, and the van was being driven by a member of the production staff back to where it's kept at night. They were NOT filming, there was no TV aspect to it at all. Just a sad traffic accident that could happen to any of us.

TMZ should NOT be reporting it with the focus on the Cash Cab show.

This was in a heavy pedestrian area of Vancouver's skid row and in the last three weeks three people have been hit and killed. Also the police constable, although named lindsay was a man so it should read sppokesman not spokeswoman. I feel for the driver as well as the victim's family.

Sorry for the death of the pedestrian, but I'm not sure the Canadians know how to drive. I know the ones that come down to Wisconsin on holiday sure get into a lot of accidents around here.
