Gruesome Details In Death of NBA Player

7/21/2011 7:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The family of murdered NBA star Lorenzen Wright is suing officials in Germantown, TN -- claiming it wouldn't have taken police 9 days to find his corpse if cops would simply have had Internet access.

Wright was shot and killed in July 2010. A witness called 911 during the shooting ... but the caller never disclosed Wright's location. Still, Wright's family believes cops should have tracked the origin of the call with a common Internet program ... which would have allowed them to quickly locate Wright and possibly save his life.

Instead, it took cops 9 days to find Wright's body -- and by that time, the family claims ... "the exposure to the elements including substantial rain, extreme heat, indigenous animals and insects had reduced the remains from roughly 225 lbs to 57 lbs."

So why didn't the cops have Internet access???? Wright's family claims officials had BLOCKED the police from using online programs because certain officers had been abusing their web access.

Wright's family is devastated -- and wants the city to fork over more than $2 million in damages.

Wright was 34 years old at the time of his death. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

i guess these cops don't understand that you can block social media websites and porn sites from computers without taking away all internet capabilities.

@MEmphis Germantown is separate from Memphis. Don't try and make this political when at this point there is no reason to make it political.

No offence Nanny but how on earth was his/her "stiletto"'s comment about the 'life style' racist or sexist? I don't really care, one way or another, I'm just curious how you'd get what stiletto said about the money grubbing as either racist or sexist, cause I don't see it.

Funny, all the females on here blaming cops, er males, for this. This is a ridiculous lawsuit at most and you dumb bi/tches have nothing better to do than attack males. You're pathetic, and know good and well that he wasn't reported missing until well after he went missing. Having the internet and tracking would make no difference. Try AS YOU MUST, BUT YOU FEMALES JUST SOUND LIKE IDIOTS. I think you who/res are the sexists. Buy some COMMON SENSE.

Scott, in this case, "your address" would not have been where Wright was. If it was, the family would have had some explaining to do.

Just My Thoughts

I realize it had to be tough not being able to say a proper goodbye to their loved one, but their anger should be at the person who shot him, not the taxpayers of Germantown. Sorry, but if I was on the jury they wouldn't get a dime.

He was just as dead, whether it was 10 minutes or 9 days. People sue for anything. Doesn't mean they win. What, is it like Domino's pizza now. We find your corpse in 30 minutes or less or we owe you. BTW, most, not all homicide victims are people who are to some degree involved in/with things/people that shorten your lifespan.Drugs, gangs, stayin for that last drink possible at the club(most bar shootings, beatings are around closing time), cheating, gambling, and just being a general douchebag.Karma. Watch that show "The First 48". That's as real as it gets and unlike stupid network crime shows, it's one of the most depressing shows you will ever watch. Violence and criminal life is not glamoruous. But it's not the cops fault it's like that. They just have to wallow among the sludge.

Reality how do you really feel? Anguish aside, maybe, just maybe, the focus should be on who shot the dude? Possibly, that party should pay for the suffering and pain caused. I assume the suffering and pain caused by the murder is more than the uncertainty after the murder.... These lawsuits are understandable but irrational and over burdening a system that can barely pay the bills

This is a dumb lawsuit, so they are suing because a dead body decomposed? Yeah thats what happens. Didn't matter how fast they found him. He's dead. ALthough if they were doing one of those frozen head Ted Williams things, now they have something.

The American way...blame others! Very sad that not once the family made reference to the ACTUAL KILLERS but only that they blame the police...

Deepest sympathy to the family. And yes, if a 911 call comes in with someone saying there's been a shooting and someone wa*****, they definitely should have been able to trace that call.
No excuse. I dialed 911 by accident once and then hung up and a cop showed up at my house in minutes! Shame on the Germantown, TN police for not pursuing this call for help. Maybe this man could have been saved. Time is of the essence in things like this. Can't count on the cops down there I see.
