Dallas Mavericks star Shawn Marion isn't taking any chances with the NBA lockout -- in fact, he just turned down "Dancing with the Stars" ... to make sure he's free to practice with his team this fall.
Sources close to Shawn tell TMZ, "Dancing" sent him an official offer to appear on the show, but the NBA champ wants to make sure he's 100% available in case the lockout ends early ... so it's a no go.
"Dancing" would end in November and NBA season usually starts in October -- which could put Marion in a difficult position if the upcoming season isn't put on ice.
We're told Shawn is adamant ... he just doesn't wanna be caught with his pants down -- or in this case, his leotard.

"Dancing with the Stars" is like "Jersey Shore" for sober people. But neither one is for intelligent people.
It seems like more than half the stories here are about blacks who I never even heard of that just keep getting into trouble.

I just loved SM in Top Gun, I mean Pretty Woman, I mean Titanic, I mean when he was the star of the team that won the NBA championship. Oh yeah, he is none of that. A-List!!!!!!
Who would want to be on a show with the likes of Snooki, Mike Tyson, Rob Kartrashian?!? Someone obviously lied that DWTS was trying to get "A-lister" celebs and they didn't want the "D-listers" anymore.
Wow. Sports celebrities I've never heard of... brothers (that I've never heard of) of low-life reality stars... this is going to be a fantastic season for DWTS! I wonder if they've asked Robin Williams' gardener to sign up? Or maybe the hoola-hoop champion of the world? Or possibly the guy who played Mr. Whipple who said "Please, don't squeeze the Charmin!".. oh wait, he died a few years ago. Oh, the possibilities are endless!

Guess he isn't as big of a publicity whore as his annoying boss Mark Cuban. He will do anything for attention.
Being on this show makes seem soft especially a minority. Pumping up your career by being on this show only works certain people and makes others seem like they're poofs.
