Meat Loaf

FAINTS AGAIN

TWICE IN A WEEK

8/2/2011 4:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0801-meatloaf-passout-EX
Three days after passing out at a concert in Pittsburgh, Meat Loaf fainted AGAIN at a show in New Jersey -- and this time ... the 63-year-old singer had to be hooked up to an oxygen machine.

Meat was playing the New Jersey Balloon Festival on Sunday -- and after finishing his set, we're told he collapsed backstage and requested oxygen.

As we previously reported, Meat Loaf suffers from asthma.

Thankfully, the singer pulled himself together after ten minutes on the breathing apparatus -- and didn't require further medical attention.

Several calls to Meat Loaf's reps haven't been returned -- but it's pretty clear ... the guy needs a break.

I've seen Meat perform and one thing I can say is the man gives everything he's got to his shows and they are great. I don't think he will take it easy though. He has a history of this, even when he was younger. I think it's only in the news lately because of his recent celebrity apprentice.

This man is a total, well, anyway. He is playing Russian roulette with his life. He has a serious heart condition and needs to take care of himself. I don't know if he has asthma or not. BUT, the fainting is a sign of WOLFF-PARKINSON-WHITE Syndrome. He knows he has it, has had it for a long time, and has been treated for it in the past. He needs to take what the doctors have told him very seriously. Every time he has a fainting spell, it could be the DEATH of him. For real, look up the syndrome for yourselves. www.wolffparkinsonwhitesyndrome.com

Meat suffers from Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome (WPW). That's more likely to cause his fainting spells than his asthma. Or maybe the two combined.

Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome (WPW): Patients are usually asymptomatic. However, during supraventricular tachycardia the individual may have symptoms of palpitations (sudden onset and termination of a fast heart rate), dizziness, shortness of breath, and occasionally fainting/near fainting during episodes of supraventricular tachycardia.

I submit to you the case of yet another entertainer in self-destruct mode. Ladies and gentlemen, Meat Loaf has long been past his prime, and is refusing to accept it. His self-destructive desire to impress an audience will lead him to almost certain ruin.

His vocal quality live has been deteriorating since the end of the late Nineties, and some may chalk that up to an intercordal cyst that was only diagnosed and treated in 2007. But, one may ask, what put it there? Seems like Mr. Loaf needs a little courage before he gets onstage.

His tour rider (posted at TheSmokingGun.com: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstage/arena-rock/meat-loaf-0) lists several hard alcoholic beverages in his immediate vicinity both offstage and on the bus. I can even list the brand names: Patron Silver, Joseph Phelps Insignia, Flora Springs Estate, Jasper Hill, Longmeadow Ranch, Turnbull Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Clos du Bois, Ferrari Gerano, Silverado, Sterling, Wm. Hill, Stolichnaya, Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, 12 Coronas with lime slices in a stage-side cooler, another 12 along with 12 local beers (both earmarked as "for the crew"), and another red wine and white wine for the tour bus. Now, I'm no doctor, but I do know alcohol causes cysts and vocal trouble, and can affect one's heart. I know Mr. Loaf has Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which was first diagnosed in 2003, but no clue what effect alcohol may have on it.

So let's do the math... He was dressed in long sleeves, mostly black in color, on a 100 degree day, during an outdoor gig. Add to this asthma, and Mr. Loaf's frequent penchant for dashing about the stage (well, as much as Mr. Loaf can dash). And then the heart condition. Add liquor which easily dehydrates a person, and you get Meat Loaf, over-cooked and under the weather.

Somebody put this guy in a drunk tank for an extended period of time, and see if his mood swings and vocal issues don't dry up rather quickly.

He probably needs a break, but it sounds like he needs an Elecrophysiologist.

It's one thing to blindly insist it's Wolff-Parkinson-White, which is partly true, but to suggest the staggering amount of alcohol available to him at every gig (see http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstage/arena-rock/meat-loaf-0) is not playing a part is sheer lunacy. I will list the sheer amount of brands available again: Patron Silver, Joseph Phelps Insignia, Flora Springs Estate, Jasper Hill, Longmeadow Ranch, Turnbull Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Clos du Bois, Ferrari Gerano, Silverado, Sterling, Wm. Hill, Stolichnaya, Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, 12 Coronas with lime slices in a stage-side cooler, another 12 along with 12 local beers (both earmarked as "for the crew" but it's not impossible for Meat to gain access), and another red wine and white wine for the tour bus. That much alcohol, literally a gallon or more, cannot be helping his voice (and you can hear that live, if you're a masochist with money for tickets) or his heart condition. Get him an electrophysiologist *and* a drunk tank, and we'll talk.

Misslys

Co-producer, let's see if we have this straight. The people mentioning WPW are "blindly insisting" and suffering from sheer lunacy yet your ridiculous assumption that Meat is a drunk in self destruct mode simply because alcohol is easily accessible to him should be taken as fact? Using your "logic" would then mean that every person in the USA is a drunk because alcohol is available at every liquor store in just about every town in the USA. Get a grip.

The guy needs a break? The guy needs to lose weight and get his asthma under control, or call it quits altogether.
