Dr. Conrad Murray

The Interview that Sunk Him

10/13/2011 6:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Dr. Conrad Murray
Dr. Conrad Murray
would NOT be on trial today for Michael Jackson's death ... had he politely declined to speak with cops 2 days after MJ passed ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Sources directly connected with the decision to prosecute Murray tell TMZ ... Murray's 2-hour interview with LAPD detectives at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Marina del Rey gave prosecutors the ammo to charge the doc.

Our sources all say, prosecutors almost declined to file the case, but the police interview made all the difference.

We're told ... police and prosecutors believe they never would have been able to prove Dr. Murray administered Propofol to Jackson almost every day for 2 months, were it not for Murray volunteering the info.  The case hinges on Murray's alleged reckless medical treatment, and prosecutors believe administering the drug in a home setting for that period of time proves recklessness.

And, our law enforcement sources say, cops could never have proven that Murray pumped a total of 5 gallons of Propofol through MJ's system were it not for the interview.

But there's something even more fundamental.  We're told it became apparent to detectives shortly after Murray's interview that the doctor wasn't telling the whole truth.  As one law enforcement source put it, "He told the truth 70% of the time during the interview, and lied 30% of the time.  And the lies created the suspicion that led to the investigation that led to charges being filed."

The real question -- why did Murray volunteer to speak with cops and spill his guts?  As one source put it, "Murray and his lawyer never thought he'd be charged with a crime.  He was worried about the bad P.R. and felt he could put a lid on it."  And another source added, "smart people who are arrogant think they can talk to cops and make a problem go away, but it doesn't work that way."

2 basic facts will put him away for a few years.

1) He administered propofol without proper life saving medical equipment and
2) He administered propofol for Christ sake !!!!

MJ official cause of death: massive propofol OD. Cause: Homicide.

"And another source added, "smart people who are arrogant think they can talk to cops and make a problem go away, but it doesn't work that way.""

Actually, blacks don't necessarily have to be all that smart to get into medical school. Affirmative action is alive and well in medical schools across the country - and almost 85% of blacks with only average GPAs who apply to medical school are accepted.

IMO - Murray is NOT smart at all. He didn't even know CPR, for god's sake. He is nothing but an incompetent, arrogant slimeball who did everything he did for money. I hope his sorry a$$ spends a very long time in prison.

@The Beaver...

With all due respect and you seem normal and didn't attack me like like most of his fans would have I have to say this. A lot of kids didn't have childhoods for whatever reason. A lot of kids didn't get the education they needed because they had to work to put food on the table of an unstable family. A lot of kids had abusive parent that did as bad or WORSE things to them than did MJ father but this is NO EXCUSE to think it's NORMAL to sleep with little kids as a grown man. Unfortunately you HAVE to grow up and be an adult. Sure you may want to do things you weren't able to do as a child but to do them WITH children? This whole "he didn't have a childhood" is a BS excuse to look past that fact the guy is a full grown man that is not right in the head. If this wasn't MJ you don't think every parent in the neighborhood wouldn't be concerned about the "single guy" that lives downs the road that always has children over to his AMUSEMENT PARK??? If MJ wasn't the Atypical profile of a PEDO I don't know what is. MJ WASN'T a kid himself, he was a full grown man that played with little kids. There is nothing normal nor remotely acceptable about this. The latitude people give this guy becasue of his "poor childhood" is amazing. If he were ANY OTHER man he'd have surveillance on his ass in two seconds. That simply covers that aspect of his wacky life. Do we need to get into the fact he chopped the crap out of his face and then went on TV and said he'd never had any work done but a bit on his nose to help him sing better? Do we need to get into the fact he had scores upon scores of doctors that perscribed scores upon scores of drugs for the guy? All of this becasue "he never had a childhood and his dad beat him" PUULEASE!! If you allowed his actions to be deemed OK because of this then there would be thousands upon thousands of people out there doing whatever the hell they wanted becasue of there "poor past" Nope once again MJ was a whacked out PEDO JUNKIE and NO excuse should be given be ANYONE to allowed him to get away with what he did.

Flying Blind

I don't even get a mention about this story.
Two nights ago I sent a message correcting Jason that Murray DID have his attorney present during the interview. And that Murray nor the attorney knew that the police hadn't found the bags in the upper cabinet. And that his attorney even said "really" when the police said they hadn't found the bags. And that was what got the charges brought against Murray.
But that's ok, I know ........ ha

To say it's ok to administer a drug without the proper facilities is negligence. Also, being a cardiologist should of had known proper CPR and patients directives. There is something about this case that completely wrong in all aspects.I don't think Michael Jackson committed suicide. The pictures presented into evidence was a bad photoshopped job.We constantly believe what is given to us through the media.Since when has a public court case such as this shown the pictures of the said deceased in the media? Everything they shovel out to us in not believable. I need to exercise our rights for the truth nor bigoted news reporters.

How could they not be suspicious even without the interview afterall Michael Jackson had a sedative used in operating rooms in his system in large volumes and Murray was at the scene nevermind the proof that it was delivered to him

Was there lidocaine in the propofol found in MJ? MJ disliked propofol w/o lidocaine because it creates a burning sensation. If no lidocaine, then either MJ wasn't thinking and CM didn't mix it, or neither MJ nor CM injected the fatal dose. No lidocaine, no CM administration of the fatal dose. We know MJ liked to self-administer the dose (push the syringe plunger), but no one has confirmed that he knew how to mix the drugs.

Why is the 2 minute time period considered gospel when the cops told Murray that his timeline was a "guesstimate"? If you read the actual words where the 2 minutes is cited, Murray was following the cop's suggested timeline.

It's like...

"you were gone just a couple of minutes"

"yes two minutes"

Murray is attempting to placate the detectives with a go-along social interaction to bring the interaction to consensus. That's not really a statement of the timeline.

According Conrad he was treating Michael's insomnia with Propofol. If the drug is applied via IV, and as we are aware, continuous IVs destroy your vains....where do you go from there ? If you take IVs every single day for say, two months, three months....where do you go from there ? You can not rely on such a treatment for months or years...
I seriously daubt Michael Jackson could have been taking those IVs for Murray claims in his interview.....He is just trying to blame SOME UNSPECIFIED other doctors for this choice of treatment. Even if there were other doctors who treated Michael with Propofol....well nobody forced Conrad to continue (?!) such bizzare and experimental treatment. He agreeded to do it for his enormous fee.

What is more interesting, in the interview Murray explains, he was not hired by Mike as he previously thought but by AEG...
