Brock Lesnar

Beaten Into Retirement

12/31/2011 5:50 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem
Brock Lesnar knows when to hang it up. He announced he was quitting the whole MMA thing after suffering a lightning fast loss to Alistair Overeem last night at UFC 141.

Lesnar was floored by a brutal kick to the stomach and the fight was stopped at the 2:26 mark of round one. He said after the fight, "I've had a really difficult couple of years with my disease, and I'm going to officially say tonight is the last time."

The former pro wrestling star fought only three times in the last 2.5 years while battling a lower-intestinal disease that nearly killed him.

Overeem, meanwhile, will next fight UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos for a shot at the title.

This is no surprise…after the “hype” was exposed the first time he got hit in a near lost, and then soundly defeated by Cain Velasquez…who continuously hit him, few MMA viewers really expected Lesnar to make a good showing against a truly skilled heavy weight…prior illness or not. It was great marketing while it lasted…the nearly invincible WWE juggernaut with real wrestling skills moves to the UFC to fight unscripted battles in the octagon. The problem; Lesnar was learning martial arts techniques on the fly while using his size and speed to compensate…clearly not everyone was intimidated…and the guy just can’t take a punch. Oopsie.

Nice to see overeem give lesner a beating K1 style. Reem didnt begin his career on a reality show unlike most ufc jagoffs. Overeem is going to make quick work of the inferior ufc heavyweight roster. with every win Overeem is giving the ufc a big f@ck you!, love it.

Saw the fight and WOW Lesnar took a shot! Not many others could have taken that kick either! Overeem is better than I thought...he's going to be a force in the MMA.

Brock you had a great run and I'm glad to hear you're hanging it up now and not sticking around past your time. You still have your health...

Brock could have been a great fighter if not for the diverticulitis. You can see that he can no longer train at the high level it takes to be a fighter anymore, he was flabby as hell! But you battle the disease he has and lose 7 inches off your colon, its to be expected.

Brock has NEVER been a great MMA fighter - just really big and powerful and overwhelmed a few guys (5-3??) but his skills have never been impressive. He's just been pumped up as the "face of UFC due to popularity and subsequent PPV draw.
