'American Idol'

Tent Girl Amy Brumfield --

The Boozy Criminal Past

1/19/2012 9:50 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Amy Brumfield mug shots
"American Idol" wannabe Amy Brumfield ... the 24-year-old singer who lives in a tent ... has a LONG criminal record ... revealing a serious battle with alcohol.

According to police records obtained by TMZ, Brumfield has been arrested at least 6 times in the past 7 years ... with 3 arrests involving booze.

Brumfield -- who blew the "Idol" judges away with her rendition of Superwoman by Alicia Keys -- was arrested in Tennessee on August 22, 2010 after cops say she was so drunk, she peed on herself in the lobby of a Baskin Robbins.

Just 9 days before  that -- on August 13 -- she was arrested in front of the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen ... after cops say she was displayed "extreme intoxication" ... and was "trying to find someone to take her home."

Brumfield was arrested twice in 2007 -- once for unlawful detainer (staying at a property after her lease had ended). The other arrest was for underage consumption of alcohol -- for which she pled guilty and was sentenced to probation.

Brumfield was also arrested in 2005 for criminal trespass on private property -- the details around that incident are unclear.

But this story could have a happy ending, judging by her audition on "Idol" last night, Brumfield appears motivated to start a whole new life for herself.

Yeah, just think how bad she will be if they give her money and fame! AI should be sued for not weeding out the lowlifes and children as contestants. Yeah, the children will turn-out just like her and LieHo.

I don't watch Idol and never have but I feel so sorry for this girl. She must be in a lot of pain. Why drag up all this stuff about her when she is trying to make it in this world. Most homeless are addicts, it's a fact. I'm glad that she is using her talent for a good reason other than prostituting herself or something. Why sabotage her before she even get's a foot hold in the competition???
Sometimes you do what you have to do to survive in this world. If that means living in a tent in the woods, so be it. I knew a guy who lived above where he worked in a hidey hole because he was homeless. He had a shower and everything up there and electricity. He got evicted from his place and had nowhere to go so he lived where he worked. He got fired when he got found out which I thought was wrong, but he had to to what he had to do to survive.

Who is anyone to judge her, we don't know what drove her to have to live in a tent . She deserves a chance like anybody else whether they live in a tent or a castle . I wish her LUCK she does have a beautiful voice AND Amy if you make it remember not to forget those who got you there Honey !

I dont think they will let her get very far. In the past , everyone with a criminal record has not be allowed to be on the show.

Oh please, just leave the poor girl alone. She has a beautiful voice and American Idol is a singing competition, it's not Miss USA for Christ sake (which Miss USA got busted for DUI AFTER she won by the way!) People are so quick to judge someone for their past, people change. The girl is broke, living in a tent in the woods, if she was open enough to admit that on national television, you think she gives a crap if people know she was busted for drinking? That stuff is public record anyway! Let's be serious. People are always trying to tear someone down. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, none of you are perfect. Leave the girl alone. Every sinner has a past and every saint has a future. She's trying to make a better life for herself, stop worrying about her and worry about yourself.

People, living in the tent isn't the problem. It's being a drunk and likely a druggie.

For those that say "leave her alone", there is a moral obligation that if you're going to make someone rich and famous, then that person should not do themselves or others harm! As with most of these "reality stars", the networks are not doing the world justice be unleashing these people.

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much." (Luke 16:10)

I thought this story was so staged & a crock. There's bears that live in those mountains and its very cold this time of the year.

From what I watched this a.m. (from my DVR before work), I think that AI is trying to "compete" with XFactor by starting the show off with 4-6 really good contestants, so they can say "see we have good singers." Now here is a chick with a back story that has to do with addiction, didn't we just have this on XFactor...

Yeah AI is the leader, but now it's copying a bit too!!! It seems a bit contrived, but the early talent from last night was nice.
