Sacha Baron Cohen

RIPS The Academy,

You're Just Like an Evil Dictator!

2/24/2012 7:42 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Sacha Baron Cohen is comparing the Oscars to a power hungry tyrant ... pointing out how the Academy has stripped him of his right to free speech ... just like his dictator alter-ego would do. Oh, the hypocrisy!

SBC released a new video statement -- while in character as General Aladeen from his new movie "The Dictator" ... in which he says, "I am OUTRAGED at being banned from The Oscars by the  Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Zionists.”

He adds, "While I applaud the academy for taking away my right to free speech ... I warn you that if you do not lift your sanctions and give me my tickets back by 12 PM on Sunday, you will face unimaginable consequences!"

Cohen also takes a shot at Hilary Swank ... presumably because she attended a birthday party for an alleged war criminal.

In case you haven't heard -- the Academy reportedly BANNED Cohen from attending the awards because it got word that he would arrive dressed as General Aladeen ... and officials felt the stunt would take away from the prestige of the event.

Amusing. The "Academy" is really helping promote this silly film.

Hell, I say let him go. No one take the academy awards seriously anyway. That award stopped being prestigious years ago. Monique is an award winner? Yeah... what difference does it make if borat goes to the oscars?

If you showed up as though you belong there and not trying to go as this "idiot"to promote this tired looking movie, then they would allow you to walk the RED CARPET. No one is looking forward to seeing you anyway. Stay home across the "pond", you won't be missed!

Prestige. Get real. It's just another festival of celebrity ego masturbation. It's a grotesque parade of people who are just like everybody else, but think they're better because they get paid too much for playing dress up and make believe.

Oh the inhumanity! Unable to act like a jacka$$ and to shamelessly shill his movie. They probably weren't going to let him run mindless up and down the aisles while people were giving out the awards.

What a brilliant PR compaign.

Let's hope he gets on the Red Carpet. Would bring some much needed humor to this otherwise boring 4 hour snoozefest.

Cohen is simply not funny. He actually comes across as attention deprived.

The ban is the greatest gift Cohen could have asked for - it gives him a lot of publicity before his next movie sinks like a stone. He's not that funny.

Uh oh i am screwed

The academy is ran by idiots. If he was allowed to, there are many people who would tune in just to watch and see what he did.
Why are women allowed to wear ridiculous things like swan dresses yet a guy can't?
It would be hilarious and would only affect a few minutes on the red carpet. THey could keep him somewhere obscure so it didn't interfere with the actual show.
I can't stand the dude but think it could provide some serious entertainment value.

Does anyone now where this idiot came from? Or what is he supposed to be doing? Is he a modern day Yoko Ono or something? I just don't get any of it.

The question is "why would the Academy give the green light for someone whose main job is to ridicule people?" Seriously, if you were having an event, would you want the guy who you know is gonna act like a jerk and make fun of you to the point of uncomfortable-ness? No of course you wouldn't.
