Rodney King

No Jail After 2nd DUI Arrest

2/27/2012 11:58 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0221_rodney_king_mug_ex
Rodney King just got a slap on the wrist for his DUI arrest last summer -- striking a plea deal in which he won't have to serve a single second behind bars ... despite the fact he has a prior DUI conviction on his record.

Rodney pled guilty today to reckless driving for the July 12, 2011 incident in Riverside County, CA ... and in exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop the DUI charge.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, Rodney's blood alcohol level was only .06 at the time of his arrest -- below the legal limit -- but marijuana was also found in his system.

King was sentenced to 20 days house arrest and 3 years summary probation. He is also required to attend a 9-month alcohol education program, and pay a $500 fine plus court costs.

King dodged a major bullet by avoiding the DUI conviction ... because he was convicted for DUI in California back in 2004 ... and in CA, 2 DUI convictions within 10 years means MANDATORY jail time.

He's got something of a free pass for life. Of course they aren't going to convict him for this since it would look like they are "getting even" with him for what happened in 1992. He'll have to commit a serious crime (if he hit and killed someone while drunk probably) to really get locked up.

Come on, baby, I'm rooting for you! Please get your life back on track. You have so much to contribute and you're obviously such a decent human being under all that publicity.

wow

There's no excuse for drinking and driving. Walk or take a cab or limo. Better yet, stay home and sleep it off. Tired of all the celebrities and others who repeatedly drink and drive.

If he gets in an accident with anyone, Riverside county is now liable for the injuries or death of the innocent party. Why does he get special treatment? He has proven over and over that he is a substance abuser who gets behind the wheel of a car. He is a danger to society.

I really have pity for Mr. Rodney. No matter how much he got for the beating it just could not change the pain and humiliation he must have felt. Too bad he turned to alcohol to ease his pain. He should have gone on a lecture circuit. He could have seen the country and helped MILLIONS leaarn to all just get along.
