'Luck' Director

Blames TMZ for Killing Show

3/15/2012 8:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

031512_luck_still2031512_luck_still2
Director Michael Mann straight up LIED to the cast and crew of "Luck" yesterday ... insisting the reason the show got cancelled is because TMZ "unfairly spun" the story about a THIRD horse dying on set.

Sorry Michael ... no spin here.

Mann and producer David Milch addressed the staff right after HBO pulled the plug on the show yesterday ... and explained, "If you take a look at the media coverage that has been spun unfairly. If you saw the media coverage ... It's TMZ and everybody else."

Let's take a look at the facts ...

-- THREE horses died on their watch. No spin.
-- Horse #3 was euthanized on the set ... and production continued a few hours later
-- Publicist Karen Jones initially LIED to TMZ about the story ... in an effort to stall us from publishing.

Bottom line -- if the horses were alive, the show MIGHT still be on the air.

LMFAO LOOK at all of the horse experts here. Who knew TMZ had so many veterinarians posting?

Who cares? The show was dull as dirt anyway.

TMZ, if you had a hand in the show getting cancelled, thanks for doing everyone (esp. the horses) a great service.

With the advancements in video animation, one would think that the show could still be made without the use of any real horses or riders. They do it in a bunch of movies where nothing is real.

I do not understand why the show had to be outright cancelled.

Surely, it could have been put on hiatus, and revamped while they figured out a safer way to do things.

Yes, three horses died, and that's a sad thing.

But an entire crew is now out of work, and I find that MUCH more unfortunate. You see, I value my fellow humans more than animals.

Anyway, with all the modern CGI effects, do they need to use real horses anyway? Just Pixar that crap in digitally...

4.7 million horses are consumed a year for food and HBO is worried about 3. Give me a break, aren't there more things to worry about.

At least Dustin Hoffman can now go back to making Rain Man 2.

I'm an excellent jockey. Dad lets me ride the horse on the driveway. Uh-oh. Three horses dead. Time for Wapner. Tapioca pudding. KMart sucks.

Amazing how many posters on here are so ANGRY with TMZ about this. Think, just maybe, those unemployed horse killers are invading TMZ because they lost their jobs? They all seem to be saying the same things too - "do you know how many horses die daily at racetracks?"
To be fair, it would suck to be someone who needed this job and had nothing to do with the passing of these beautiful animals, but if the company isn't capable of treating the horses with the care they need they should be stopped!

Let me guess... they gave the horse meat to local villagers who were happy to get it.

Because it is NOT uncommon for horses to die, even by their own self-inflicted accidents (even in their own protected stalls or turn-outs), and since TMZ has made it sound like HBO acted irresponsibly, movie and TV producers will be afraid to have horses in their productions for fear of bad publicity (from people like - TMZ). So, if TMZ’s intent was to never see a horse on screen again, they might get their wish.

This is a lot of horses dead for a newer show that has not been filming very long!
Thanks TMZ for reporting it!
