Jason Russell

Naked Meltdown Blamed on

'Brief Reactive Psychosis'

3/21/2012 7:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Jason Russell
's family has a statement on the "Kony 2012" founder's health ... claiming Russell was diagnosed with "brief reactive psychosis" following his naked meltdown ... and will remain hospitalized for several weeks.

The statement reads, "We would, again, like to make it clear that Jason's incident was in no way the result of drugs or alcohol in his body. The preliminary diagnosis he received is called brief reactive psychosis, an acute state brought on by extreme exhaustion, stress and dehydration."

The statement continues, "Though new to us, the doctors say this is a common experience given the great mental, emotional and physical shock his body has gone through in these last two weeks. Even for us, it's hard to understand the sudden transition from relative anonymity to worldwide attention - both raves and ridicules, in a matter of days."

TMZ posted the video last week ... showing a naked Russell ranting maniacally and slapping the pavement before cops detained him on a 5150 psychiatric hold last week.

Jason's family insists ... Russell "will get better" ... saying, "He is, and will remain, under hospital care for a number of weeks; and after that, the recovery process could take months before he is fully able to step back into his role with Invisible Children."

"During that time, we will focus not on a speedy recovery, but a thorough one."

Jason's behavior is catatonic.

Wikipedia states:

Catatonia

Catatonia describes a profoundly agitated state in which the experience of reality is generally considered to be impaired. There are two primary manifestations of catatonic behavior. The classic presentation is a person who does not move or interact with the world in any way while awake. [snip] The other type of catatonia is more of an outward presentation of the profoundly agitated state described above. It involves excessive and purposeless motor behavior as well as extreme mental preoccupation which prevents intact experience of reality. An example would be someone walking very fast in circles to the exclusion of anything else with a level of mental preoccupation (meaning not focused on anything relevant to the situation) that was not typical of the person prior to the symptom onset. In both types of catatonia there is generally no reaction to anything that happens outside of them

My guess is he was priming himself up for the upcoming sexscapades he would endure to produce those additional 9 children he wants with his wife. I mean the man is obviously gay so not an easy task.....

Do they actually think anyone believes that Jason Russell was not on DRUGS?.....really...come on!!! Of course he was on some sort of drug......nobody rants and rages naked in a normal state of mind...not even if they were mentally ill and most mentally ill people exhibit behavior like that ALL the time...not just on some rare occasion. How could he run this company he ran if he was "that bad off". Look, he was either on meth or crack cocaine!! He probably had been up a couple of days getting high and the drug overtook his thinking...every drug addict I know has acted exactly the way he did....every time!!

Sure doesn't explain the Gayness of his outburst. He sure looked like his closet door slammed wide open and the Queen came to town.

I wish this man well. I have seen this very things happen many times with my mother. The only drugs ever involved were anti depressants that can trigger a manic episode very similar to Jason's. I hope he gets all the help he needs and that he can make it back to his family soon.

Didn't this happen on a friday afternoon.. sounds like party time. Sure seemed like somebody on drugs. I seen one guy on LSD who started to take his pants off and was about to wander outside. But the manicness of this jason guy seemed like some other type of drug. Wasn't exactly wobbling around as if he was drunk.. Somebody mentioned pcp and i looked it up on youtube and wow here's a video of this naked black guy walking down the sidewalk and the cops are trying to talk him down.. sure seems similar to this jason guy. Look up the "PCP- Angel dust" video on youtube.

wow lookup this one on youtube
"Russian guy off his head on PCP (Not Jason Russell.) But like Jason Russell"
Its this naked guy in the street and starts he's jerkin off.

i dunno but i'd believe this jason guy was on pcp more than the excuses they come up with about everything other than he wasn't on drugs. You just dont snap like that overnight on a friday afternoon. They just dont wanna say he was on drugs because of the invisible children foundation thing.

And good to see the comments how most people aren't buying their excuses either.

It is obvious that the video is censored due to a Viagra overdose and a 5 hour stiffy that provokes his inner fabulousness.

I taught my kids when they were babies......Lying vs. telling the truth. Telling the truth is best, even if it's a bad truth. Because it's.....the truth and won't get you in more trouble than you may already be in. On the other hand, lying will get you in more trouble. First off, because most people will know that you're lying. Then you'll have to tell more lies to cover the first lies. By this time you've told so many lies they're hard to remember. Then, you'll start to feel bad because you're trapped in all the lies. Next, comes a feeling of drowning in lies and you'll wish you had just told the truth from the start. So, telling the truth is just all around easier. Did my kids ever lie to me? You bet they did! But, they were also aware that I probably knew they were lying. More often than not, they would spill the truth rather than have that lie eat at them. The truth hurts. But, at least it's the truth!

OMG, he made a video, give me a break!!! I would imagine that the children his video is about are under much more stress, exhaustion and dehydration and you don't see them pounding the pavement naked.

It's not a California issue. I have lived here my entire life and I can honestly say California has little tolerance for sexual perverts. I don't understand why he was not arrested and sent to Jail Mental Health. Regardless of the reason he deserves to be punished for what he did. He saw trauma.....what about the trauma he caused other people, especially kids? Is it okay because he's involved with Invisible Children. Ahhh.....NO! You play, you pay.If I myself or one of my kids did that I would expect an arrest. I hope he's handcuffed to his bed.

the first part of recovery is admitting you have a problem.
