Keith Olbermann

Planning His Exit

Long Before He Was Fired

3/31/2012 7:58 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Keith Olbermann wanted out of Current TV well before he was fired yesterday because he felt the network was mismanaged and wouldn't be around much longer ... sources close to the situation tell TMZ.

As TMZ first reported, Keith is planning on filing a lawsuit against the network for his unceremonious dumping yesterday. He released a statement that said in part, "It goes almost without saying that the claims against me implied in Current's statement are untrue and will be proved so in the legal actions I will be filing against them presently."

According to our sources, Keith felt the network was a "ragtag operation" that was disorganized and felt thrown together. We're told Keith felt the entire place was mismanaged ... right down to the office supplies.

On one such occasion, we're told the staff couldn't use one of the printers because it was out of toner and they had none in supply. In a staff-wide email obtained by TMZ (see below), a production administrator told the staff, "We expect to have replacement toner in tomorrow and will have a better stock on hand for the future. Sorry for the inconvenience."

To Keith's point ... they couldn't even fire him without a giant mistake. In Current TV's press release to announce that Eliot Spitzer would be taking over for Olbermann, they provided a Twitter account for Spitzer that is not his. The real Eliot Spitzer doesn't have a Twitter account.

Wickedly talented, but obviously, he's the one common denominator in all of his firings.

I think that Kieth can go suck ass, because he has no right to sue Gore.

Omg, the NERVE of those people. They ran out of toner, and didn't have an immediate supply on hand? The world is coming to an end!

Ok, word of advice to Keith (and yes, I hope he does go after them). Law firms go through a lot of paper/printing. I worked for a lawyer. There were times WE didn't have toner on hand. If this is going to be your big proof of a network in shambles, ask your attorney first if HE'S ever run out of toner. When he stops laughing and nodding his head, move on to better evidence.

I think Current should merge with OWN network. Like when the WB merged with UPN. It made for once less channel I had to totally ignore.

Also when Eliot goes I predict Rosie O'Donnell will replace him.

Ha! The liberal turds are eating their own!

Obama is tanking. The Supremes are taking him down and Olbermann and the fat Al Bore at at war.

"To Keith's point ... they couldn't even fire him without a giant mistake" According to the Associated Press "During the primary season he ... has missed a number of regular broadcasts"

*Correction* Richard III, NY is not an at-will doctrine state and additionally not a right-to-work state, in this instance it would not matter even if it were though because Olbermann's employment was contractual. New York does not have implied contract exceptions so you are correct in that he would have been screwed even if he did not have a contract. Also, good luck proving retaliation with out a police report, meaning he would have had to file the company for misdeeds prior to his release.

To the Current point ... however, no showing to work is a pretty giant mistake as is insubordination, even in a non at-will state like New York. So then what, he's suing because he couldn't print one day of the summer last year?

Good luck with telling that to the judge. You got canned Olbermann, buck up! Maybe Octo can guide you through the next steps...

It's become obvious that the blowhard who names a worst person in the world nightly is,in fact, the worst person in the world. This isn't about his politics. He has been poison everywhere he's ever worked. When liberal MSNBC and then more liberal Current tv fire him it becomes obvious that he's just a complete a-hole.I gaurantee Olbermann never sues Current tv.HLN would then televise that trial as hundreds of former coworkers and his former employers that would line up,expose what it's like to work with him.Go ahead Keith, make our day.

I am not a fan of Keith but I am one of those Liberal Ninnys you people refer too and I happen to like Elliot Spitzer

It's always someone else's fault, isn't it, Keith? No toner for a day??? Such a disaster! I wonder if you allow your Olbermann staff to use wire hangers. (Current needs to bring back V.Video Film School!)

So, lemme get this striaght. He was going to quit, but they fired him. Now, he is now going to sue because they got rid of him before he could leave on his own? I guess that makes sense to libertards.

Current tv was Olbermanns last shot at being relevant. It does occupy placement on directv between msnbc, the business news channels and foxnews so just flicking thru he got exposure. He will now join another blowhard,Glenn Beck,on the web only. There's always public access TV.Keith's world,Keith's world, party on,excellent.

ROFLMAO, isn't that the same excuse "ALL" celebs or t.v. personalities use when fired "I was planning my exit long before then" Geez, all this drama eh?

Keith. Go on the internet and do a subscriber-only show. You have more than enough fans to support an operation. If you need more than one show, team up with Cenk Uygur. We've been after our cable company (Cox) to get Current TV since you left, they refuse. Go rogue. On the internet where at least no company can throttle you. Yet. Get a you tube channel if nothing else. Keep working.
