Michael Clarke Duncan

'Fighting Like a Mutha'

7/17/2012 3:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Michael Clarke Duncan "is fighting like a mutha" and his heart is as strong as an ox -- sources involved in his treatment tell TMZ.

We broke the story, Michael went into full cardiac arrest early Friday morning and his girlfriend Omarosa did heroic CPR and re-started his ticker -- especially miraculous since he weighs 325 pounds.

Our sources say ... Michael has been on a respirator at the hospital since his admission, but we're told he's "breathing above the respirator" -- a good sign.

We're told tests were performed Monday and doctors determined Michael has a "very strong heartbeat" and they are optimistic. That's especially good news because Michael has been sedated ever since his heart attack and doctors aren't sure what his condition will be -- worst case scenario could involve paralysis, although that's looking less likely.

Doctors have no immediate plans to take Michael off the respirator and we're told it's still dicey for the 54-year-old actor.

We're told the buzz at the hospital is ... L.A. can't afford to lose another high-profile celebrity and "an army of people" are caring for him.

It isn't a "respirator," it is called a ventilator...or "vent."

Are we sure Omarosa had nothing to do with that man's attack. She is a little sketchy. I see a new reality series for her out of this.
Hang in there man! Get strong. You are going to need your strength.

As a cardiovascular intensive care nurse I find your "report" to be hilarious. I've never seen anyone "paralyzed" from a heart attack. It's not a respirator it's a ventilator and breathing over the ventilator is not a good sign...its not anything at all. Brain dead people breath over the vent too. Putting together the pieces of this story sounds like he had a cardiac arrest...yes his heart stopped...CPR was initiated and now he's in a medically induced coma. If he recovers he will need bypass surgery. Mr. Duncan, good luck to you, we wish you a full recovery.

I was gonna crack wise about him strip dancing on gurneys, and everyone who has seen Armageddon could have chuckled about it, but the last comment in the article means we aren't allowed to have fun.
Instead, apparently I have to remind you that no one in the hospital really gives a damn that he's famous when they're wiping his ass or cleaning the drool off his chin.
