I'm think Gabby is a heroine,; her·o·ine ; a female admired or idealized for her courage or her nobel qualities. I'm thinking every female who qualified for the olympics is a heroine regardless of their race/creed/color/religion/gender....as for Condi making this idiotic remark about Gabby being singled out cause she's African/American, typical race callers! Seems to me that Americans paid $$$$$$ for her training and for she and her family to enjoy jolly old London

I can understand that this gives little African American girls someone to look up to, so that is probably why she called her a hero. I consider her a champion though.

Condi made this sound like it was the 1968 Olympics, was it really necessary to point out she was African American? Stop trying to seperate black people from the rest of America. We don't have Irish Americas or Italian Americans, they are just plain Americans. Any black person born in this country or who has become an American citizen from somewhere else is an American period. When Gabby got the medal the last thing I thought about was the color of hrer skin, she had just won a medal for America. But that wasn't good enough for Conoleezza, she had to bring race into it. Go USA!

Wow the morons and racists are out in full costume today. So while ignoring the nutjobs I will say congratulations to Gabby and the troll doll Condi is not fit to wipe the ground under that young woman's feet. Condi stop trying to use Gabby's time to re-enter the spotlight.
To the ME generation who embodies all things selfish, disrespectful, and spoiled: THIS is what happens when you are truly dedicated, smart, and hardworking. Stay in school, keep your clothes on, legs shut, and hopefully you won't be living on the streets as adults.

Why, why, why.....? Must they always bring up race? And then they are upset because of racism. QUIT categorizing people by their race. Did they call Alexandra Italian-American when she won a gold? No, they called her an AMERICAN.

The reason why African Americans put out their own is because gymnastics in the US is a white dominated sport. As african americans we don't have a lot of blacks in certain sports and industries. It's like with swimming. Black swimmers are rare to come by.

Calm down people.

It's very easy for people who are in the majority not to see it as that big of a deal. but when you are a minority it is refreshing.

Gabby is a CLASS ACT . She had more poise than an other girl on the team. The others acted pouty and hissy. Gabby was constantly smiling and happy. LOVE THAT GIRL!!!!

Equality means absolutety nothing when African-Americans place their race before their achievements. She isn't a terrific gymnast because she's Black, she's a terrific gymnast because she worked hard.

Why can't Gabby just be an AMERICAN kid that won a GOLD MEDAL? Was she born in Africa? No. Does she have a duel citizenship? One in America and one in Africa?
