Green Bay Mayor to Commish

You're Crushing Packers'

Shot at a Super Bowl

breaking news

Green Bay Mayor James Schmitt fired off an angry letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell -- as promised -- claiming the labor dispute with referees is threatening the Packers on-field success ... AND putting the entire Wisconsin town in financial jeopardy.

TMZ obtained a copy of the letter ... in which the Mayor claims the NFL's elite status is being "threatened by less than qualified officials who are not quite at the same level as the rest of the league's representatives."

Mayor Schmitt, who's also a shareholder of the publicly owned Green Bay Packers, continues ... "last night's game creates a negative perception on the NFL brand, which in turn jeopardizes the Packers' chance for success as well as the potential to negatively affect our local economy."

All in all, it's a pretty polite way of saying it totally sucks that replacement refs cost Green Bay's greatest commodity -- the Packers -- a victory last night.

Leave the refs alone -- they are working hard to call the games and have been put in an untenable situationby the league and the media. The MEDIA does more damage with their irresponsible comments and their decidedly biased opinions which are totally against the refs. One call does not make or break a game - how about sacks, defensive assignments missed, missed tackles, missed blocks, dropped passes, etc. Take the blame for losing the game like men and move on. And the stupid policitian who thinks he should be invovled should stick to his own job - honestly - the refs are not causing GB to lose the Super Bowl - they do that all by themselves. Interestingly, when the "real" refs are graded getting a 90% performance rating is considered exemplary - and not a common score -- meaning - if they miss one every ten calls they are considered exceptional and most do not reach that lofty position. Get over it and play, coach, broadcast - take care of your business and stay out of theirs then maybe we won't see dropped passes, missed tackles, bad coaching decisions and hear horrible grammer.

The only reason people are up in arms is because it happened to their beloved Packers. Get over it. I have news for you all, the Packers were not and are not going to be in the Super Bowl this year. Aaron Rodgers simply does not have it, nor do any of the current players paid to protect him! He was sacked 8 times in the first half, and that had nothing to do with the replacement refs! Lets hear someone talk about THAT FACT for once!

You mean to tell me that they cannot find qualified refs? Are you kidding me? It’s not brain surgery we are talking about here.
