Matthew McConaughey

Reduced to Skin & Bones

10/8/2012 4:17 PM PDT BY Johnny Lopez

Matthew McConaughey looks skinny after weight loss.Looking even more emaciated and gaunt than before, a frail Matthew McConaughey was barely recognizable as he -- with the help of his mother Kay -- left a church in Austin this weekend.

As TMZ previously reported, the normally buff and shirtless 42-year-old is wasting away to play Ron Woodruff in the movie "The Dallas Buyer's Club," the true story of a man who contracted HIV through drug use in the '80s and has to smuggle life-saving medications from Mexico.

Why does Hollywood go to such extremes? Why not just get a skinny actor??

Matthew, is this movie really worth you compromising your health? You may be causing irreversible damage to your body. Don't take your health for granted-having good health is priceless.

I hope for Mathew and his family the information is correct that the weight loss is for a movie role. I can't say it is not worrisome to see him look like this and know he has a young family.

Can't say this is a movie I'd pay to see even with all this pre-filming free publicity provided courtesy of TMZ.

yikes, from the stripper to this. it's in their contract how much they lose. we'll say, when they lose electively, they win. it's per pound, like renee zellewiger did in those movies, how much wt she lost was actuaally per pound (bridgette diaries) it was out rageous per pound

This cannot be good for his health. It is so wrong for these actors to do this to their bodies.

Why does everyone consider a guy who is 170lbs buff? lol... Abs don't make you buff and neither do 14 inch arms

Dennis Quaid did the same thing for Doc Holliday role. Makes you feel for the people back then who had to smuggle life saving medications into the US. Still I hope his health and organs are not in jeopardy.

I wouldn't think this would be good for Matthew's heart and overall general health, even under a Doctor's care and guidance. I know he wants to get inside and feel the part, but honestly I think this is taking it way too far.
