Phillip Phillips' Family

'Idol' Champ's Forcing Us

To Sell Pawn Shop

11/3/2012 6:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Phillip Phillips
' family says the singer left them high and dry after winning "American Idol" -- refusing to help them out financially -- and now, they've been forced to sell their cherished family business ... Phillips family sources tell TMZ.

The Phillips family-owned Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn -- which has been in the family for 24 years -- is scheduled to hit the auction block on December 1st ... and we're told, Phillip's dad hopes to use the profits to cover the family's mounting debt.

We're told Phillip's dad hopes to bring in between $200,000-250,000 during the auction.

We're told Phillip's family has reached out multiple times to the singer for financial help since he hit it big, but Phil has blown them off.

According to Phillips family sources, the family's especially hurt by the singer's radio silence -- since they spent a ton of money on travel expenses so they could see Phillip compete on "Idol."

We made multiple calls to Phillip Phillips over several days -- but our calls were not returned.

So, how is this guy any different from Obama, who lets his Kenyan brother and family live in squalor?

I wonder if this was the family's plan all along to milk phillip's success for all it's worth.. kind of like Lidsay Lohan's parents. Unless there was a contract drawn up, he's not obligated to give them a cut of any money made, besides he's just starting out and IDOL show owns him right now. He's under contract to them and they pay him so much. Yeah he can give the family some money but in the end it wouldn't be enought and the family business would still have to be auctioned off. Get off this kids back ....unless you know all the facts. I don't so I won't judge.

If you saw how Philip Jr. got so choked up when he won, you would think this is a bunch of crap. He seemed very close to his family, and this story is bunk!

THEY DID NOT HELP HIM SUCCEED, read the article more closely...the money they spent was to get thier OWN buts to wacth a tv show!! I dont blame Phillip..sounds to me that they EXPECT him to pay thier way...the article says they spent a ton of money to come SEE HIM compete in idol.....ha ha..lets face it..they didnt GIVE him money..they paid thier way to go see him so they could be on camera, that is what they did!!..And because HE made money, why is it HIS obligation to pay thier way?? on top of that the story doesnt say anything about all the medical expenses that he just had to pay for all the medical issues he just had....No one helped him pay for that!..the article also says that they have been calling the past few days and he hasnt returned thier call....the past few days?? really??? I have had family memebrs call, but havnt been able to get back to them for a week or so because when i am available it is too late to call etc...this could be true for him as well. Sounds to me they have been in trouble for a long time, and now that this kid got famous they want to use him and his money, what was thier plan to save thier business if this kid didnt win??? who were they gonna blame then???? When ya have or get money, even when you work hard for it, lazy beggars come out of the woodwork wuith the expectation that YOU owe them something just because they know your name...People need to be more INDEPENDANT of themself, and stop using others!!

If you saw Phillip Jr.'s response to winning, you would know how genuine and caring he is. This story is crap!

We don't know his relationship with his family. Maybe they were not the best parents to him. Honestly, if I came into money or won the lottery I would not bail my family out. No one should expect a handout just because.

Good for Phil! I find it weird that the family kept the business together for 24 years but as soon as Phil hits the big time it's, "bail us out or we have to close".
His folks are a bunch of users.

If he is ignoring them he probably has a good reason. Since they profited from the misery of others for 24 years maybe their Karma is coming back to them.

Stay on the path Philip and don't let anyone drag you down.
However do be generous to those who truly deserve it when you can, your Karma also comes full swing in time.

Good luck to all..

That is just more TMZ Bull$hit.
Stop trying to make that family another Kartrashian Blohan story

First of all, I doubt Phillip Phillips has much money at all...he didn't write his hit, so much of that money goes to taxes, managers, lawyers, etc. etc. etc. He doesn't have the cash to save their business for sure.

He might have a good reason for not helping them out, they sound like "users." They have lived off the misery of others for 24 years already maybe this is their karma coming back to them.

Keep on the path, Phillip, and don't let anyone 'guilt you' into anything. However, always give back to those who truly deserve it when you can. After all, your karma is always in motion and will come back accordingly.

Good luck to all..

"Phillips family sources tell TMZ"......I'm not so sure I'm buying this based on the fact it's based on "family sources"!

He should move to a new home and get unlisted numbers and forget about the lot of them - they are obviously nothing but leeches. We can choose our friends - but not our family, however, we CAN choose to have nothing to do with family when they are like these people ... I know because I've been there and no matter how much you help them it is never enough. Choose your friends judiciously and live a happy and fulfilled life without usery.
