Phillip Phillips
' family says the singer left them high and dry after winning "American Idol" -- refusing to help them out financially -- and now, they've been forced to sell their cherished family business ... Phillips family sources tell TMZ.

The Phillips family-owned Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn -- which has been in the family for 24 years -- is scheduled to hit the auction block on December 1st ... and we're told, Phillip's dad hopes to use the profits to cover the family's mounting debt.

We're told Phillip's dad hopes to bring in between $200,000-250,000 during the auction.

We're told Phillip's family has reached out multiple times to the singer for financial help since he hit it big, but Phil has blown them off.

According to Phillips family sources, the family's especially hurt by the singer's radio silence -- since they spent a ton of money on travel expenses so they could see Phillip compete on "Idol."

We made multiple calls to Phillip Phillips over several days -- but our calls were not returned.

There's sure to be more to this story than is written here. So don't be quick to place blame on Phillip before you know everything that's transpired between family members.

Let us not presume to judge . We do not know his side of the story . I have a brother who is a millionaire , but I have never asked him for a dime . People need to be accountable for their own lives and that includes financial . People need to take responsibility for their own screw ups . I did .

i can't blame him...first we don't know the whole story....we don't know the exact amount the family is asking for...it's probably tens of thousands, which i can't blame him for not giving...which is what is sounds like they are asking for, a gift. if they wanted a loan, then why not go to a bank when it was apparent that their son wasn't going to help...probably because a bank wouldn't give them the money with faith that they would get it back...maybe his dad is a lousy businessman and phillip doesn't want to throw good money after bad. maybe if his dad had run the business correctly, he wouldn't be in this situation...hard to judge when we don't even know half of the story...

How is their son forcing them to sell/loose their business? Isn't this also the kid that was so sick during the contest? This story is messed up TMZ!

I like kids who screw over people. Sounds like he might grow up to be another Mitt Romney. And remember come election day, that Romney's Mormon religion, the ""True religion" states in the book that JESUS is the brother of SATAN. Yep, they are brothers. Look it up yourself on google. Now that you know the truth about this NUMBER 1 CULT, (Scientology is Third), you risk voting for Romeny at the cost of your eternal soul Do you really hate OBAMA that much?

maybe they are selling the business. but I do not believe this young man would refuse to help his parents.
bet the family source is distant relative ...a freeloader that tried to get money from phillip and when that didn't work made up this lie to sell to the sleezy media.

Ok, so here's how I see it. Yeah, Phillip used to work there and I believe he performed at the pawn shop too. So, whenever his family flew to California to attend tapings of American Idol, they either closed the store (issue!) or they had someone (probably unreliable) run it (issue!).
Like someone else said, what if he hadn't won? They who would they be blaming.
As for appearing on American Idol: yes, he gets paid per show, but with having a #1 song on iTunes, he's not getting much of that money. Nor is he getting much from the CDs sold at Walmart. He doesn't get cash when he wins. He gets a record deal and a management deal that he is tied to for however long. Phillip ain't making the big bucks just yet. He just simple hasn't earned the money yet. And what money he did have, I bet it went to pay for the surgery that he had to have.
As for people calling him a "has-been," HE HASN'T REALLY STARTED HIS CAREER! Geesh, let him release his damn album before you claim him as a "has-been" and to the Jessica lovers... WE HAVEN'T HEARD FROM HER YET EITHER! So what makes YOU think that she'll fair better than Phillip?

Since when are the parents supposed to be coming to their child for assistance??? Obviously these parents are running a failing business, otherwise they would not be in this predicament in the first place... so why throw even more money at a failing business???

Besides, anyone who ever thought that Phillip Phillips had any talent in the first place is completely delusional... so he better keep every penny he has at this point since he will NEVER make it the music business!!

Whatever. Can't wait 'till this self absorbed little nobody gets flushed back into the faceless void.

I wish there was a way to black list him from the organ donor list. Selfish **** had no problem with risking his kidneys for a stupid TV competition.

ESRD from stones is a rarity, but it DOES happen, and it's not that hard to get CKD from stones as severe as he had. His piss poor choice shouldn't cause anybody else to die. He made his choice, he should have to live, and die for it if necessary.

I think its a good idea to sell the shop. The parents would never have any peace from people trying to get close to the American Idol Phillip. Let the Phillips family take care of business.

If I remember correctly, they were selling it when he was on American Idol. I think now they're just trying to get everyone to feel sorry for them or jack up the price because of who their son is.

Oh please. This is such bull shi t.. First of all the NERVE of the father to EXPECT for this kid to pay off HIS mounting debt. Its NOT Phillip's fault. And second I bet Phil does not even have that kind of money yet.. He is just getting started. Shame on them for doing this..
