Randy Travis

I've Given Up Booze

... FOR GOOD!

Randy Travis is officially ON THE WAGON -- this according to his lawyer who tells TMZ the singer has “eliminated alcohol from his daily life.”

You know the history ... the troubled 53-year-old wound up behind bars several times in the past year after multiple booze-related arrests (naked DWI, public intoxication, assault).

Now, Randy's lawyer, Larry Friedman, tells TMZ … Travis has acknowledged the problem ... and decided to 86 the liquor from his life so he could focus on improving his health.

“[Randy] works out 3 hours every day and is in the best shape of his life,” Friedman says … adding, “He has a high protein diet and takes a lot of vitamins.”

Besides his new workout obsession, Friedman says Randy is determined to get his groove back – and hit up a recording studio in Texas last week to start laying down some new tracks.

No word if Travis is planning on releasing a new album anytime soon ... but given the last 12 months of his life, he's definitely got enough material for a classic country song.

So he just set himself up to fail. Not only did he just set himself up to fail, he made himself a religious zealot in the process. YOU have the power to stop drinking randy, not 'god.'

So, he went from one extreme to the next? Working out 3 hrs a day? He needs to be in rehab to address the underlying issues. White knuckle sobriety won't last long, but I wish him health and peace.

Whatever it takes for him to be sober. He was a decent country artist and it's sad to see him struggling so badly. Good luck to you Randy, keep fighting.
