The company that owns the radio station responsible for the Kate Middleton radio prank says it has "terminated" the show ... and will implement "a company-wide suspension of 'prank' calls."

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) issued the statement this morning saying it still feels "deep regret" for the death of hospital nurse Jacintha Saldanha following the prank ... and "take the events of the last few days very seriously."

SCA says it has taken the following action:

- The suspension of all advertising on 2DayFM until further notice;
- The termination of 2DayFM’s Hot 30 show;
- A Company-wide suspension of “prank” calls
- A comprehensive review of relevant company policies and processes

SCA says it has tried to reach out to the hospital, but had "no success."

SCA doesn't believe it broke the law by making the calls ... but says it will cooperate with any police investigation.

SCA Chief Executive Officer Rhys Holleran added, "First and foremost we would like to express our deep and sincere condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha for their loss. We are very sorry for what has happened.”

He says SCA is also "providing support to our people who are deeply saddened by this tragic and unforseen event.”

As we previously reported ... before they were suspended, the DJs were actually BRAGGING about the call -- in which they impersonated members of the royal family to get information about Kate's medical condition.

Canceling the show is going overboard. People have pranks pulled on them and don't commit suicide because they got fooled. Does anyone remember Sarah Palin being pranked by a Canadian comedian who pretended to be the French President? She had a long winded conversation with him before he finally admitted that he had punked her. It was all over the media. She may have been embarrassed but she got over it. The woman who committed suicide clearly had other issues going on. You don't kill yourself and leave two children behind because you were embarrassed. Very sad for those children but her death cannot be blamed on those DJ's.

Yes TMZ, we know you previously reported how they were BRAGGING about the prank call...before the nurse killed herself, back when the DJ's figured it was just an innocent prank no different from the millions of other prank calls that did not end in suicide. But I guess the DJ's should also have been psychics so they would not have made the call in the first place, and that way they definitely would not have promoted/bragged about the call they made. Sheesh.

How is this their fault? It was a dumb call. Yes they should have gotten permission. However, I bet you any money the hospital officials probably reprimanded and threatened her job. That was probably the cause. Experience in hospitals so I have no doubt this played a role.

This was a terrible tragedy but there is definitely more that caontributed to Ms Saldanha's mental state than this ill -fated and unnecessary ridculous prank. Bullying can put people right over the edge and the public humiliation probably pushed her. People have to be sensitive to other people. I am not one for "political correct" ideals, but sometimes things can go too far. I truly believe that the DJ's did not forsee something so tragic happening and they appear to be truly remorseful for the events that transpired. It is a weight on their conscience that is going to be with them a very long time. They are human and do not appear to be heartless. Lesson learned that people can get hurt and humiliation is a terrible thing. Prayers to Ms Saldanha's family

This is so 'touchie-feelie' stupid. This namby-pamby liberal world is so full of crap!

Grow some spine, folks. It was a gag the likes of which go on all over the world on a daily basis on radio. Yes, it's a real tragedy the nurse took her own life, but come on, she OBVIOUSLY already had issues, not to minimize her life or struggle, but it happened. ANYTHING could have set her off and down the road to her demise. May she rest in peace.

But to continue to friggin' crucify these two DJs just goes to show you how pathetic a world of liberal mindset, with Chief ONOBama at the helm here in the states, really looks like! Have we had enough of this stupid overreacting yet?

Good grief, world, grow up.

I don't understand why they thought it was funny to begin with. I compare it with kids calling stores on the phone and asking if they have Prince Albert in a can.

You guys are confusing this nurse with the one that had the actual conversation and TMZ is milking it for all it's worth, knowing that you all are unaware of the difference. All this nurse did was patch the DJs through. She was not the one that recieved media attention. That one, was the second nurse, whose voice was everywhere, receiving criticism. Yet, with all the media attention, she did not kill herself. But the one who received absolutely none, did. It doesn't add up and doesn't make any sense. My heart goes out to her family; the husband and her two children. However, this woman had issues before this prank call took place and the DJs should not be criminalized for it.

DOES IT MATTER IF SHE WAS JUST THE NURSE THAT PATCH IT THROUGH?! A LIFE IS A LIFE AND THESE TWO IDIOTS KNEW THEY WERE VIOLATING THE LAW.....CAUSING THIS WOMAN GRIEF ON GLOBAL.LEVEL TO THE POINT WHERE HER BELIEFS WERE SO CRUSHED BEYOND REPAIR ...SHE KILLED HERSELF BECAUSE OF HUMILIATION! GROW UP PEOPLE! TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR STUPID ACTIONS! YOU WANT A HOSPITAL TO TREAT AND SAVE LIVES AS IF THATS NOT DIFFICULT ENOUGH ..THEY HAVE TO FEND OF FCKNIDIOTS WHILE DOING IT? A HOSPITAl IS A SERIOUS PLACE...NOT SOME PLAYGROUND FOR IDIOTS TO MESS WITH? WHAT IF U HAD A FAMILY MEMBER DIEING IN THAT HOSPITAL AND SOME IDIOT PRANKED THEM?! NOT SO FUNNY! OH YEAH, NICE FOR MAKING A HARWORKING NURSE WHO HELPS CARE AND SAVES LIFE BE DEGRADED BY SOMETHING AVOIDABLE AND SHAME ON U PEOPLE FOR JUDGING HER ABOUT HIPPA LAWS!! ITS NOT THE UNITED STATES FOR HIPPA LAWS PEOPLE!

I'm Australian and I was disgusted when I first heard the call. Firstly, hospitals should NEVER be subjected pranks (they have enough to deal with). And I don't care if Kate is a royal, NO ONE has the right to pester a hospitalised pregnant women.

Many cultures highly value pride & honour so its very ignorant to say the public humiliation she suffered was irrelevant.

These DJs and the station had time to think about the ramifications these poor nurses would of faced (e,g. humiliation, losing their job), yet they went ahead and aired the call without their consent. This was not a 'harmless' prank, it was incredibly cruel prank which they were happy to gloat about.

I don't know if the prank was the sole reason she took her life but I bet she'd still be around if they didn't make that stupid call.
