Octomom

Welfare Fraud Investigation

in Full Swing

3/23/2013 9:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0319-nadya-suleman-welfareThe investigation into whether or not Octomom committed welfare fraud has begun, and TMZ has learned authorities have started to contact her former employers to see just how much money she's been making.

As TMZ first reported, the L.A. County Dept. of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation (WFP&I) was contacted by someone claiming that Octo is collecting welfare for her and her 14 kids despite allegedly making more than minimum amount required to collect welfare.

Octomom can receive welfare support if she made less than $119,000 in a calendar year because she had so many children, but authorities believe she may have made over $200,000.

According to our sources, investigators have begun calling people who have employed Octo in the last year to determine just how much she's been raking in -- which will include collecting things like bank statements, canceled checks and wire transfer receipts.

We're told the investigators have asked these employers if they know of any other people who have employed Octo lately ... and the employers have handed over a few names that investigators are following up with.

If she is found to have committed welfare fraud, Octo could be prosecuted and would face three years in prison or more.

There is no way she made that sort of money doing dodgy strip shows and online deals.

SMDH at the fact this has been allowed to go on for so long. It's a truly sad state of affairs that someone can still qualify for welfare after bringing in 6 figures a year. I guess the secret is to hide all your money in a shill corporation so that none of your assets appear in your name. It also helps to blow through your dough on frivolous spending like Disney trips, fast food , brazillian blow outs and weed brownies.

The amount of hatred in these comments saddens me. For a moment, think about how this lady is trying her best after admittedly making bad decisions to have so many children. If she gets prosecuted, it will just make the children's lives much harder and likely tear apart their family. Since it is so abnormal to have so many kids, even if she did commit welfare fraud, the amount of welfare dollars per family membr would likely be significantly blow the average. I wish other americans here would exhibit more empathy and do their best to provide helpful and thoughtful solutions. Have mercy on this lady and her family of impressionable young kids.

I see people here saying "go after the doctor". Well, why the hell don't people say, "go after the father"? She knows who the father is and had an intimate relationship with him, or so she says. He should be contributing to the support of those kids as well as she should instead of the people of California.

Alvin, You will get no quarrel from me about Octo and her welfare schemes, and probable fraud, and the fact that she considers every dollar she earns, her own personal funds to be spent on herself, as she wishes. We all know that's the case. And she's scamming the system - - we know that and I hope she gets her azz handed to her.

It's just that so many people talk about their "tax money" feeding the rugrats, and the point was to make them aware of how little they really contribute. A few mills, maybe a penny, if that.

I am far more outraged right now about Biden and his million dollar tab for two nights' hotel stays in London and Paris.

It is women like her that make it hard for women like myself, who has served my country, worked hard and then became disabled not by choice, and be told that I can not receive any help because I make too much a month, Less than $1000, and try to put my 22 yr old son through college, Sure this is where all my tax dollars went.

Either way this "thing" will be a drain on the taxpayer. At least if she's in prison where someone commiting grand theft belongs, there will be small amount of limitation as to the $$ that is wasted on "it"
I don't think foster parents get as much $$, so it might actually save some $$

Sincerity

More than likely, the only thing the state will probably do is force her to make arrangements to pay back the difference. The problem is that she hops on and off the system so much and it's not like the state checks monthly to see what she has actually accumulated in her bank accounts. Frankly, they would rather she pay back the difference than have to wrestle with placing all those kids in foster care. Frankly, I was under the impression that her nannies were paid by other people trying to help Nadya Suleman and her kids. The only information they may have is who probably paid her "CASH OFF THE BOOKS" but that would still be their word against whoever they rat out. If she was setup as a 1099 vendor/contractor on their books to help them classify how they handled her payments, then she may have a "REAL PROBLEM"!!! There may be a definite discrepancy between what she was paid in gross and the fees she had to pay an agent/manager to setup these gigs. An agent/manager's cut maybe 20% or higher of her gross earnings.
