Jay Leno

NBC Quickly Wipes Away His Memory

2/7/2014 5:33 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0207-jay-leno-splash-sign-beforeNBC is already distancing themselves from Jay Leno ... by erasing his name off the side of the building where he shot "The Tonight Show."

The Peacock network sent a team of painters armed with rollers and a forklift to white-out Jay's billboard -- just ONE FRICKIN' DAY after he signed off for good.

Here's what's interesting ... Jimmy Fallon's moving the show to NYC, so the net's not really under a deadline to change the signage before Jimmy takes over the reigns. Guess they just wanted to let Jay know that this "goodbye" is permanent.

Somewhere, Conan O'Brien is smiling.

I will miss Jay Leno! The other night was almost another another insensitive moment on the part of NBC. WHO fires their #1 show .....PERIOD?????? While I like Fallon, his appeal is not broad and NBC will live to regret pushing Leno out while he was on top! NBC has a history of "rewarding" hard-working, devoted employees this way. I just hope when the dust clears that Jay will realize that he needs to go to another network and do what he does best. They weren't loyal to him---he needs not feeel loyalty to them! There MUST be an audience for him. You don't stay on top for that many years if there is no appeal.

Leno was a fluke. Ripped off people's work. Gotta hand it to him though. His delivery shtick , is what carried him all these years .

This is much to do about nothing. The facility where Jay was taping his show hasn't been owned by NBC for 3 years. NBC has been leasing back the studios from the new owner, the Burbank Studios, and of COURSE they're going to "clean up" after a tenant leaves!

That's ok because Jay could BUY NBC if he wanted! I have heard rumors that he has NOT cashed one of his Tonight Show's checks! He lives off the money he gets from his other gigs that he does nightly! SCREW NBC! Enjoy life Jay. You deserve it! Enjoy retirement.

What should be made clear is that NBC hasn't owned the studio Leno taped at for five years; it was sold to a real estate trust that rented them to NBC until KNBC and Days of Our Lives (the last two tenants besides Leno) found new studios. So it definitely wasn't NBC painting them over, but the real estate trust.

And exactly why would O'Brien be smiling? Her FAILED as bad as you can at the Tonight Show and Jay came back and rescued it. O'Brien was banished to TBS where he is as unfunny as he was on late night NBC. Leno is a class act and very funny. Fallon will do a great job!!

I'm surprised they waited until the last show was over.
Did the last audience stay for the auctioning off of the set too?

I didn't think NBC owned that studio complex any more. Why would a studio keep a sign up for a show that was no longer taping there?

Leno got what he desrved. Doesn't feel good huh Leno...look what you did to Carson! It took a long time to happen alot longer than it should have. You lived off of stealing things from other shows. Do you even have an original thought in your mind?

When Fallon tanks in the ratings, as he surely wil as he is a clown, not an interviewer, NBC, the Nothing But Crapola network will be kicking itself for getting rid of Leno. Aside from Johnny Carson, Leno has been the best host of Tonight. I put Fallon in the same clown class as Conan.

Jay made NBC a lot of money... now... NBC is done with Jay. People are disposable at all levels in this world we live in. The good news is Jay realized it from the start and saved his money. Like him or not, Jay did a great job and appealed to a wide range of viewers. The good news is this... if you like him you can go see him live. His stand up in person is on a whole different level than you see on TV.

Sounds like some network is spooked (not so sure of what they did). I think it's bull that someone can't appear on anyone else's evening talk show or does that mean morning and afternoon talk shows as well? I can tell you that I haven't tuned in to Jimmy Fallon but the first show. I think it was a BIG mistake to let Jay Leno go and if I'm up that late and watching TV, it sure isn't JF, unless there is someone that I like on there. I sometimes watch JK, or DL. NBC has that sort of attitude, they'll soon have to replace JF or do away with The Tonight Show. What they're doing is discriminatory.

Good luck! I have a feeling you're going to need it if NBC doesn't change that clause back to what it was.

Take care,

This is false. NBC does not own the lot at all that the Tonight Show taped on. NBC couldn't have less to do with painting over his sign.
