Caitlyn Jenner

Name Inspired by Miss America Pageant

6/2/2015 11:48 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0601-bruce-jenner-vanity-fair-04Caitlyn Jenner chose her name after being inspired by the Miss America pageant.

Caitlyn told Vanity Fair she had been watching the pageant in the last couple of years to come up with ideas for names. Two names resonated with her -- Heather and Cathy.

It sounds like Heather and Cathy were front-runners but she also liked Caitlyn. Ultimately, Caitlyn's assistant Rhonda tipped the scales when she suggested Caitlyn.

Jenner had been on the fence but Rhonda pushed him over the line.

I Didn't Want to Look

Like a Guy in a Dress

6/2/2015 6:32 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Caitlyn Jenner did not want to look like a pretend woman when she transitioned from a man to a woman.

Caitlyn told Vanity Fair it was extremely important that she presented herself as feminine.

Beyond cosmetics, Caitlyn talks about the isolation she felt in the '80s, and how the Internet became her salvation because it provided a connection with people in similar circumstances.

And Caitlyn talks about her role models, many of whom are famous including Laverne Cox from "Orange Is the New Black."

New Identity Creates Problems

at the Golf Course

6/2/2015 1:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0601_caitlyn_jenner_sherwood_country-club_2Caitlyn Jenner has some tricky day-to-day changes in store, including where she eats, drinks and changes clothes ... at the country club which has become her home away from home.

Bruce Jenner became a member of Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, CA 15 years ago. He golfed there almost every day and established close relationships with his golfing buddies. It's a very exclusive, ritzy club with an initiation fee ranging between $150,000 and $300,000.

But now that Bruce is Caitlyn, the rules partially segregate her from the male members.

For starters, there's a grill in the locker room that is male only. The women's locker room has its own eating area which is way more scaled down.

Our Sherwood sources say the board will enforce the rules, which means the camaraderie Bruce shared with the other members will be impeded now that she's Caitlyn.

But we're also told the board is open to an appeal by Caitlyn herself. She can attempt to make a case that she can keep the same privileges she had when she was Bruce.

The club is closed for renovations until December, which means there's time to sort things out.

Jeffrey Tambor

Caitlyn Reveal is 'Miraculous'

6/2/2015 6:25 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Jeffrey Tambor, whose fictitious life parallels that of Bruce Jenner, is thrilled with the unveiling of Caitlyn.

Tambor, who plays a man in his 60s who becomes a woman in the show "Transparent," was leaving the Directors Guild of America Monday night when our photog asked him about the big reveal.

The actor was short on words, but strong on emotion, voicing big support for Caitlyn.

Rodman on Bruce Jenner:

Would've Had Ass Handed To Him

... If He Did This In '90s

6/1/2015 4:09 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Bruce Jenner would have had his "ass handed to him" if he came out as a transgender woman back in the '90s ... so says someone who spent a lot of time in women's clothing, Dennis Rodman

The Worm just called in to "TMZ Hollywood Sports" and says he's extremely proud of the way people are accepting Caitlyn ... and says society has come a LOOONG way in just a few short decades.

In fact, Rodman says he specifically remembers spending HOURS trying to talk Sports Illustrated into letting him pose on the cover in women's clothing back in 1995.

Now, Dennis says he thinks Jenner is breaking down some huge barriers for the LGBTQ community -- telling us, "A lot of athletes will come out now and say they're gay. Watch."

And with Caitlyn saying she's still trying to figure out her sexual preference, Rodman has a message for the 65-year-old -- "If you wanna go on a date with me brotha, let me know."

Check out "TMZ Hollywood Sports" weeknights on Reelz.

Obama to Caitlyn

Way to Go!

6/1/2015 3:52 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0601-barack-obama-caitlyn-jenner-Vanity-fair-getty-02President Obama has weighed in on Caitlyn Jenner's new journey, by heaping praise on her.

The Prez just tweeted, "It takes courage to share your story," adding, "Your story matters in the fight for LGBT rights."

It's a huge victory for the LGBT community. It's one thing for the President to acknowledge LGBT rights during a State of the Union address ... it's another to voice strong support for the person who has become the most visible transgender person in the world.

We Stand By Bruce

6/1/2015 12:28 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

General Mills -- the makers of Wheaties -- had an interesting reaction to the passing of Bruce Jenner and the birth of Caitlyn.

As you know, Bruce's image was an iconic box cover for the cereal in 1977 ... one year after he won gold at the Olympics.

We contacted General Mills Monday and asked about their reaction to the new photos, and they told us, "Bruce Jenner continues to be a respected member of Team Wheaties."

We followed up by asking if they acknowledge the presence of Caitlyn and the response was short and to the point: "We stand by our statement."

We were told General Mills has had its statement locked and loaded for a while.

It's interesting ... the company rolled out the box cover in 2012 for a retro campaign celebrating the achievements of Olympic gold medalists, which also included the images of Muhammad Ali and Mary Lou Retton. We don't know if they will use Bruce's image in the future.

Call Me Caitlyn

First Photo as a Woman

6/1/2015 9:13 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

It's the biggest reveal of 2015 for sure ... Bruce Jenner as a woman, and the pic is dramatic.

The name's now Caitlyn. She posed for the cover of Vanity Fair's July issue and it was shot by famed celeb photographer Annie Leibovitz.

It's interesting the name is spelled with a C and not a K ... possibly a break from the Kardashian Klan.

In the Diane Sawyer interview Bruce made it clear he was saying farewell to his male persona. This pic is a full reveal of the transformation.

Caitlyn just opened a Twitter account, saying, "I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me."

Check out the video, where Caitlyn models several outfits and seductively poses.

Bruce Jenner's Olympic Teammate

"It's Courageous

... But I Don't Get It"

6/1/2015 11:27 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0601_Caitlyn_jenner_fred_dixon_vanity-fair-gettyCaitlyn Jenner's former decathlon teammate -- who competed for Team USA with Bruce in the '76 Olympics -- says he's struggling to "compute" the whole Jenner situation ... but still considers her a friend.

TMZ Spoke with Fred Dixon ... who reunited with "Bruce" at his 64th birthday party last year (a reunion featured on "Keeping Up with the Kardashians").

Dixon was extremely honest when we asked if he'd seen the new cover of Vanity Fair .... saying, "Bruce was one of the best athletes who ever existed. Now, to see that photo ... somehow it doesn't compute."

"I look at it and I don't understand it. I'm not in any way judging him ... but it's very different."

For the record, Jenner told Diane Sawyer he expected some of his old friends to feel this way ... and understands -- "Some people will get it, some people won’t get it, it’s OK."

As for Fred, he says the bottom line is simple -- "The soul that was and is Bruce Jenner is still my friend. I don't understand what's going on now ... but he's still my friend."

Trashy Lingerie

Big Winner In VF Cover

6/1/2015 11:07 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0601-bruce-jenner-vanity-fair-08If you’re wondering where Caitlyn Jenner picked up that sexy satin corset for her big cover reveal, look no further than West Hollywood’s Trashy Lingerie.

We found out Jenner’s stylist went to the famous lingerie shop three weeks ago looking for a specific type of corset. We’re told the stylist bought 3 corsets for the VF cover shoot – 2 satin ones that lace up the back, and 1 lacy number that was special ordered.

The shop’s plain, satin nude Edy Corset won top honor, along with matching high-waisted panties … in a size large. The cup size? A healthy 36B.

The stylist dropped $1,030 total for all three looks.

A small price for a big change, if you think about it.

breaking news

Jenner -- who was an Olympic champion back when she was a he -- says ESPN has chosen her as the winner of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award

According to ESPN, the award is given to those who truly personify the spirit of tennis great Arthur Ashe -- someone who shows "strength in the face of adversity, courage in the face of peril and the willingness to stand up for their beliefs no matter what the cost."

The ESPYS are set to go down in L.A. on July 15th -- and Caitlyn, along with her 10 children and stepchildren, are expected to be on stage when she gets the award.

I Didn't Spell it with a 'K'

For Good Reason

6/1/2015 10:11 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Caitlyn Jenner did not spell her first name with a "K" because she wants a clean break from the Kardashian moniker ... TMZ has learned.

Sources closely associated with Bruce tell us Caitlyn wants to make it clear to her family and the world ... she is her own person. That sounds obvious, but we're told it was an extremely meaningful choice for her ... she has never been her own person before, and becoming part of the Kardashian brood would undermine her goal.

Our sources say it's not that there's bad blood between Caitlyn and the Kardashians ... it's all about self-identity.

I Needed to Shock People

With Vanity Fair Cover

6/1/2015 10:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0601-bruce-jenner-vanity-fair-05Caitlyn Jenner did not want the world to see a demure version of herself ... she chose a sexy photo because once the shock wears off, people will be more accepting.

Sources closely associated with Caitlyn tell TMZ, she gave a lot of thought to her first public image. She felt if she posed in something modest, like a dress, people would not be satisfied and the mystery would prevent her from leading any kind of a normal life.

We're told Caitlyn chose an extremely sexy, revealing outfit because now that the public's curiosity is satisfied, it will not be a shock when she goes out in normal streetwear.

And our sources say Caitlyn plans to publicly circulate now that her true self is revealed. She was hiding for a long time until this moment, but now the decks are cleared.
