Golden State Warriors Proposed Arena Would Cripple Hospital ... Lawsuit Claims
The mother of a 6-year-old boy with a severe heart condition has filed a lawsuit hoping to stop plans for a new arena for the Golden State Warriors ... 1,000 feet from a children's hospital emergency room.
Jennifer Wade is suing the chancellor of the University of California at San Francisco -- which owns the land where the proposed arena is set to be built.
Wade claims the arena would cause traffic, crowds and other obstacles that could block access to lifesaving care.
In her suit, Wade claims several public officials -- including S.F. mayor Ed Lee forced the university to sign the deal by threatening to retaliate against UCSF in some way if they got in the way of the plans.
Wade says the issue is deeply personal to her -- since her 6-year-old son Magnus has a congenital heart defect and often seeks treatment at UCSF.
"He often needs emergency care at a moment’s notice. It terrifies me to think about being caught in traffic, unable to bring Magnus to the hospital."
"I filed this lawsuit because I can’t believe that the Chancellor would allow the Warriors to build their arena next to the hospital."
Wade is begging a judge to void the deal asap.
