Russell Wilson is standing by his woman ... saying Ciara looked FLAWLESS while singing the national anthem at the Championship game Monday night ... despite criticism that she let too much hang out.
The drama began when former ESPN reporter Bonnie Bernstein tweeted about the singer's low plunging dress -- saying, "Dear Ciara. You're stunning. But this is a National Championship Game. Kids are watching. Cover up."
The tweet started a firestorm on social media -- with everyone from Hugh Douglas to La La Anthony supporting the singer ... and ultimately Wilson decided to throw in his two cents.
"I see you baby!! Sounded amazing & looked flawless in every way! @Ciara"
Some people accused Bonnie of criticizing Ciara because she's black -- Bernstein responded to that too.
"Truly am amazed at how people take a tweet (that includes a compliment!) & wanna make it about race. Seriously. Grow up. Watch the game."
So far, Ciara hasn't responded to Bernstein ... but did repost a pic of her singing ... saying, "Truly Grateful For This Moment, and To Be A Part Of A Special Night."
