Taylor Swift Hangs With Jimmy Jam at Songwriters Hall of Fame, On Video

A clip of Taylor Swift talking to Jimmy Jam at Thursday's Songwriters Hall of Fame red carpet is going viral -- showing her telling the R&B legend she was having trouble holding a conversation with him -- but we're told the video doesn't tell the whole story.

Check out the short clip ... Taylor and Jimmy are chatting it up on the red carpet before Thursday night's ceremony kicked off at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in NYC.

Their back and forth seemed a bit awkward, and it didn't take long for Taylor to say ... "I feel like I'm no good at conversation right now."

Jimmy then points to the side, and Taylor asks if that's where she needs to go, presumably to find her table at the event.

Taylor zips away, but this definitely was not her blowing off Jimmy ... which is obvious since she'd taken a couple minutes to pose for pics with and Sombr right before they were talking. As for that conversation, sources at the event tell us TS and JJ were chatting about the crazy week she'd had -- the "Toy Story 5" premiere, the historic Knicks game and now her Songwriters Hall of Fame induction.

Taylor went on to have a remarkable night with her soon-to-be-husband, NFL star Travis Kelce, who made it to the event by the skin of his teeth. Their moms, Andrea and Donna, were also on hand, sitting at the couple's table.
