Spelling Mansion

Secretly On the Market

7/5/2006 2:52 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned that Candy Spelling, Aaron's widow, has quietly put the Spellings' legendary mansion on the market for $150 million.

Sources in the real estate industry say Westside Estate Agency (WEA) has a pocket listing on the 56,000 square foot estate, meaning it is quietly being shopped among realtors and select buyers. The mansion, located in the exclusive Holmby Hills area of L.A., was completed in 1991 for around $47 million, which includes $10 million for the land.

One real estate source says Candy Spelling has let a lot of people on the staff go and that the buzz is that she is going to shut the house down so it can be shown by realtors. Aaron Spelling died on June 23.

All you people who think Candy is "Cashing in" dont know what you are talking about. HE WAS WORTH OVER A BILLION DOLLARS!!! If YOUR spouse died maybe you would want a new start also. AND it was his ego trip to build that house-not hers. Is she supposed to live alone in 50,000 sf and a bunch of servants?

And the movie colony are always with the group complaining about the "obscene
salaries" of corporate officers!!! If that isn't both obscene AND piggish, to have to have that large an estate!! Don't complain about corporate personnel until the movie industry donates THEIR money the way Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have.

Who cares? Rich people add their money to the economy and create jobs. They buy expensive things which push dollars into local businesses. Their money creates jobs, whether it is banking and accounting jobs or construction and labor jobs. Money isn't important unless it is spent, and when it is spent, someone gets it in return for something. So what are we arguing about here? That some woman wants a lot of money for her famous husband's home? She won't get it, but she will get some. It won't be a mogul who buys it most likely, but maybe an organization such as a hospital. Maybe it will sit empty for many years and just take electricity. I say, don't give money to the homeless, give them a home. It looks like this house could give shelter to several thousands of them.

I wonder if zoning would allow it to be turned into a museum or perhaps an insane asylum for the very well heeled. You know, a place to stash crazy Countess Zsa Zsa or some other rich as Satan loony in the upper crust. Knowing the transcient nature of LA, someone will buy it, tear it down and put up a few dozen McMansions instead that accumulate to more profit than one steroid induced house. I'd love to see the inside and see if it is really beautiful, or typical American white trash rich decor (fake Louis the XIV white furniture with gold trim, lots of gold cupids on the ceiling, small copies of Michaelangelo's DAVID with a clock in the stomach).

Geez, for 150 Million, you could probably buy the entire state of Rhode Island or a large percentage of Modesto, CA.

1: Aaron Spelling donated MILLIONS to worthy causes.
2: America is a free market economy, so why sell it for $20 when it can make much more...and rightly so.
3: How do you know what his wife will do with the money when she sells it? Trust me, she's not hurting for cash. Maybe she's incredibly sad and this is part of her coping process.
4: Most importantly, this whole "everyone should be equal", "take from the rich and give to the poor thing" doesn't work. It's called communism. A free market economy breeds invention and thinking.

LA Gurl sure is a left wing looney. Her notion that America is corrupt like "Mexico" because the Spelling house here is worth $150 million if someone is willing to pay the price is typical of the slightly insane rants of the rest of the Charlie Sheen brigade and the reason Americans do not trust democrats with the learship of this country.

Tell me LA Gurl, where in Mexico is a house listed for $150 million?

If we are so corrupt why don't you live elsewhere? And tell me where is a better palce? France with Johnny Depp? 12% unemployment, 65% taxes, $8/gallon gas, huge immigration problems, sounds like paradise.

BUYER BEWARE!!! The Spelling's had their contractor in court for years for "shoddy" workmanship. The roof leaked!!! Serioulsy!!! I guess Candy now says the house is solidly built and the roof's been fixed!

Wow, why so quick to think hatefull thoughts. Maybe she wants to sell it so she can live more simply and recover from her loss. And where did it say she didn't plan to donate the money, or share it? Who knows, other than her, what her plans are. Oh, and this is not as much as the home that recently sold in England and I don't remember anyone calling the Brits capitolist pigs!

They were able to earn enough money to pay for it.

She now can sell it for what someone will buy it for. Don't see the big deal. It's her money and she is entitled to spend on one roll in Vages if she wants to. (I'd love to see that!)

As for selling it shortly after he died...all I can say is inheritance tax. Could you imagine the tax bill on half that thing?

No one has to tell Bill Gates to give his money to the poor. He is doing it all on his own. Don't you read the papers or watch TV?

Hey Willard. No one is asking Gates to give his money away, because he's been doing it for years. Steve Jobs just gave him BILLIONS to give away with his "Bill Gates Foundation".

But I agree.... Screw the homeless!!!! :P
