Ominous Illness Sidelines UFC Champ Lesnar

11/15/2009 11:39 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Brock LesnarBrock Lesnar -- the UFC Heavyweight Champ -- is in "bad shape" according to UFC president Dana White and won't be fighting anytime soon.

White made the announcement after UFC 105 last night, saying "He's in a hospital up in North Dakota somewhere right now. He went to Canada and some bad stuff happened to him, so we've got to figure it out ... He doesn't want to talk about it publicly, but he's in bad shape. He's not well and he's not going to be getting well anytime soon."

Lesnar originally pulled out of a November 18 fight and reports suggested he had swine flu. The fight was rescheduled for January 2, but then it was announced Lesnar had mononucleosis.

But White made it clear, Lesnar's problems go beyond mono: "He is not good. He is very, very sick and he's going to be out for a while."

with the popularity of ufc, i have always wondered why the steriod spotlight has not shined on these athletes. it's obvious with the pounding these guys take that they need steroids to speed up recuperation in addition to their freakish physiques, strength and aggression. the sport is tailor made for steroid abuse, but no testing or mention of use or abuse that has tarnished baseball. dana white makes millions on the backs of these athletes mortgaging their health for temp fame. look at the pro football players that abused years ago before testing. same thing. nfl looked the other way because it enhanced the brutality of the sport.

I think I just heard on HLN that he threw himself in front of a train in Canada and has died. Apparently he gas been suffering from depression for quite some time.

Brock is a good guy but he knows he is NOWHERE near ready to step into the ring with Fedor Emilianenko, the greatest MMA fighter ever.
If it's a steroid complication then Brocks's career is over, that organic failure stuff never heals.
If it's some persistent infection there is at least some hope of recovery after a long rehab period.

That's amazing considering that as big and as powerful (Strength wise) as Lesnar appears to be, that he could be that sick - this mystery illness must be related to complications from the use of steroids...
