Murray's New Lawyer -- I Know Propofol

1/8/2010 7:40 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Dr. Conrad Murray's new lawyer claims he's the best of the best when it comes to cases involving Propofol and death -- and dude has the track record to prove it.

dr.conrad murry , michel flanagan, michael jackson

TMZ spoke to J. Michael Flanagan who told us, "I'm probably the only attorney in town that has successfully tried a Propofol case involving death."

Back in 2004, Flanagan defended a nurse who was accused of wrongly administering the stuff to a patient who later died. The nurse was charged with involuntary manslaughter -- the same crime we're told the D.A. is likely to charge Murray with. But with Flanagan by her side, the nurse was acquitted.

As for Murray's role in the Michael Jackson case, Flanagan told us, "I am totally unaware of any facts that would give rise to an involuntary manslaughter charge."

As TMZ first reported, the LAPD is expected to hand over their case to the L.A. District Attorney in a matter of weeks. We're told the D.A will almost certainly criminally charge Murray in MJ's death.

Easy, SOMEBODY before this trial will pay big money for an exclusive interview with him. That's almost a given.

Every American citizen who is going to trial is entitled to 2 things, the presumption of innocence and legal representation.

Well, Murray's going to be vacationing in his native land soon. Under some palm tree with one of his babies' mammas. I doubt any chargers will be filed against him.
He'll make millions on the book he'll write telling all he knew about Michael. He'll pay this lawyer his share for getting him off, should charges be file, and then live a serene life on some Island.

The worst part is the sheer negligence..Since it's such a precarious, unethical and dangerous procedure not having the right equipment was beyond stupid..How horrible..Negligent to say the least..Where was everybody..??Why didn't anyone shout from the rooftops if they suspected there was propoful usage?? Terrible and we'll be upset for years over this atrocity..

I hope the doctor gets the book thrown at him. Far to many doctors are getting off on these kinds of charges nowdays. Where are their ethics or do we already have the death squads out there? The rule of law needs to be laid down somewhere and it may as well start here. How many people have died due to a doctor's negligence (my father included) and gotten away with it. When will it end. Doctors are no longer doctors because they want to help people, they are doctors for the $$$$$!!!!!!

They were in it for the money

Good to know the Dr. has a good attorney, but one thing stands alone. this death did not happen inside a hospital and did not happen with qualified medical personel. Big difference between a cheap home inviroment set up and surgical atmosphere.

POWER TO THE WHITE PEOPLE

33. Michael Jackson’s former personal physician has hired a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney to help his legal team combat a potential manslaughter prosecution in the pop icon’s fatal overdose last summer.

Dr. Conrad Murray hired Glendale attorney J. Michael Flanagan on Tuesday, the physician’s lead lawyer, Ed Chernoff, confirmed.

The lawyer previously won a manslaughter acquittal for a nurse tried in what is believed to be the only other L.A. criminal case involving propofol, the powerful sedative blamed in Jackson’s death.

Sources have told The Times for several months that Murray is expected to face involuntary manslaughter charges. The Associated Press, citing an unnamed source, reported today that prosecutors will seek an indictment against Murray for involuntary manslaughter.

Law enforcement officials have identified Murray as the target of a manslaughter investigation in search warrants filed in court in the months after Jackson’s death, but a spokeswoman for the district attorney said today that no decision had been made in Murray’s case.

“We have not been formally presented with the case by the LAPD yet.... We do not have a pending case,” spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said. Murray’s lawyers said that if prosecutors had convened a grand jury, they had not notified them or invited the doctor to testify. Flanagan, Murray’s new attorney, said the discussion of an involuntary manslaughter charge was not surprising.

“That is the only thing they could charge him with, but it doesn’t mean that a grand jury would indict him,” said Flanagan. In 2004, the district attorney’s office prosecuted two Burbank nurses for involuntary manslaughter for administering the anesthetic to a cancer patient without authorization of an anesthesiologist.

The patient died. One nurse pleaded no contest to a lesser charge. The other, represented by Flanagan, was acquitted.

This is a really relevant piece of information, Hopper. Thank you for posting this.

This information, however, does NOT look good for those of us who hope there will some form of justice for MJ. Scary.

And the circus continues.......as much as I hate to say it, this seems like it might be the final nail in the coffin.

A new Lawyer????? Conrad Murray can't even pay his child support, how the heck is he going to pay his lawyer?

The more time that goes on the more time Murray has to get "his story right" . Hes now hired a lawyer who has a proven record of getting someone off similar charges....GREAT !!!

Another case of no justice for Michael.??????
