Meg Whitman: My Maid's Full of It

9/29/2010 3:40 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Meg Whitman's campaign just gave us documents suggesting that her former maid, Nicky Diaz Santillan, actually lied to Meg about her immigration status when she was hired back in 2000.

Whitman maid.

The documents, which Whitman claims Nicky filled out and signed back in 2000 during her application for employment, appear to show that the maid stated under the penalty of perjury that she was a "lawful permanent resident" of the United States.

Whitman also claims Nicky provided her with a social security card and valid California Driver's License with her employment application ... which Meg kept and has now handed over to TMZ.

Whitman has also issued a statement on the matter, saying ... "After 9 years of faithful service, Nicky came to us in June 2009 and confessed that she was an illegal worker."  Whitman continues, "Nicky has falsified the hiring documents and personal information she provided to the employment agency that brought her to us in 2000."

And, Whitman continues, "I believe Nicky is being manipulated by Gloria Allred for political and financial purposes during the last few weeks of a hotly contested election."

Whitman concludes, "This is a shameful example of the politics of personal destruction practiced by people like Jerry Brown and Gloria Allred.  The charges are without merit."

I'm a gay man and I've lost all respect for Gloria after this. I am thankful that Meg has gotten in front of this shameful example of dirty politics. It is all the more reason to show that Jerry Brown Inc., is a crooked as he ever has been. Meg 2010!

I hope you in California get Jerry Brown a man who has never work a non-government job in his life. This left-wing socialist state is sinking faster than one of Kristie Alley's turds. Gloria Allred is just another Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton media whore that thrive off the media attention and could get less than a damn about the person or people they call themselves representing.

Who do you believe "A CRIMINAL" or a respected business woman....Go Meg!!!

I'd love to see Allred get a fistful on this one...What are the rules about representing someone who is here illegally? Isn't she aiding and abetting a known fugitive???

I wonder how much Gloria Allred is being paid by Brown's staff, or what was she promised in return for this slander?

Allred should be put in the dock with this illegal as co-conspirators. Furthermore, Allred should have her license to practice law revoked. She is a joke

Damn, a criminal for entering the USA illegally and Gloria represents her. Then the illegal wants money and back wages. I say she owes California money from the entitlements she probably received. A criminal making a non-criminal look like a monster. Who the hell gets $23/hour to clean house?

If Meg thinks employers are responsible for checking on indo***ented worker, how come the employer part of the I-9 isn't signed by anybody? No one was in charge?

Meg's right, employers that don't do the job correctly should be held accountable.

OK, call me ignorant, but why would you hire a Mexican worker and pay them $25 per hour, but no employer wants to pay a White American worker $25 per hour?
Both have to fill out W'2 forms and pay taxes, so why aren't legal American housekeepers paid $25 per hour? The cleaning company I worked for for one day, paid me $10 per hour, and the private job I took, the lady would only pay me $13 per hour. What is the deal with paying questionable Mexican workers so much money?

I would think that if Whitman had something to hide she would have told the maid to start working on her legalization paperwork (or whatever) and just keep her employed and paying her opulent salary until she corrects her standing. But she didn't. She was lied to and let the employee go. Good for Whitman. More employers ought to grow a set.

It will come out that Whitman was like, and is like, many Californians, hire undo***ented workers to do housework and nanny duties.

It will come out that Whitman knew full well that when she hired this person that she was an "illegal."

Where Whitman screwed up is not helping this person become do***ented when she asked for Whitman's help in 2009.

Whitman is also in trouble with the Bureau of Labor Standards and Enforcement because she no doubt was also not paying for Workers' Compensation insurance.

In California whether you have one employee or a thousand, you have to provide workers' comp. coverage for the employees.

IN CALIFORNIA IT IS A CRIME TO INTENTIONALLY NOT PROVIDE WORKERS' COMP INSURANCE.

And I know Whitman did not provide it because 1) It's expensive; and 2) Workers' Comp insurance companies require that employees are do***ented U. S. employees for coverage. And insurance carriers do check out if proper U. S. Dept. of Justice immigration forms have been filled out and also look in to employees' backgrounds. For example, they contact the fed govt. to confirm an employer's compliance with the law in terms of do***enting an employee's status.

Being at eBay Whitman knew how all this worked.

She knew that applying for workers' comp. insurance would open the door to inquiries she did not want made. So that's why, IMHO, she most likely committed a crime by not getting coverage for this employee.

I don't see any plausible deniability for Meg here. She obviously knew she had an illegal working for her, what puzzles me is, why was she paying her $23 hour!? Billionaires usually aren't so generous with the illegal help.
