Pulls 'Gay' Movie Trailer

10/8/2010 2:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Bowing to growing outrage from the likes of Anderson Cooper, Universal Pictures has decided to pull the trailer for the movie "The Dilemma" -- and replace it with a new one some time today ... Universal tells TMZ.

The trailer in question begins with Vince Vaughn telling a room full of people, "Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars ... are gay." Sources at Universal Pictures told Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke they showed the trailer to gay rights groups beforehand, including GLAAD, and didn't get any negative feedback.

But after Anderson complained on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," we're told the studio folded like a cheap suit.

A rep for Universal Pictures tells TMZ, "The teaser trailer for 'The Dilemma' was not intended to cause anyone discomfort. In light of growing claims that the introduction to the trailer is insensitive, it is being replaced. A full trailer, which has been in the works for some time, will post online later today."

Now if only they can make the movie seem funny.

UPDATE: GLAAD tells TMZ they called on Universal to remove the clip from the trailer last month. A rep tells TMZ, "The use of the word ‘gay’ in this trailer as a slur is unnecessary and does nothing more than send a message of intolerance about our community to viewers."

I find his offense to the term 'gay' (which usually infers something is really stupid, dumb, pointless, a piece of ****, etc etc) GAY.

Unless the homosexuals of the world know something about electric cars we don't, and they really ARE gay?!?!

The world needs to lighten up already.

I think the posters here that don't understand the offensiveness of using the word gay in a derogatory sense are really gay. No offense. Since, you don't see it as offensive.

Homosexuals stole the synonyms for happy, cigarette and a bundle of sticks. Heterosexuals want those words back. :)

If all the politicians and celebrities who were gay finally came out of the closet and stopped pretending to be publicly homophobic, we might progress as a nation. There are lots and lots of them living a life of hypocrisy, and they do no service to those young gay men and women looking for role models.

Ummm, dude's not saying those things are homosexual, wanting same sex partners.

I guess those boneheads are going to go after everything that uses the word 'gay', like Gay Paris and the film The Gay Divorcee.

Well they make jokes about your color, your weight, ur breasts and ur butt and your schlong and your hoo-ha..why cant they make jokes about where you put said items???

I understand the plight of gay people and I believe that should mean equality to all but quit being so sensitive..its not equal if it boils down to not talking about the elephant in the room...have a little humor geez!

If homosexuals hadn't taken over the word gay, this wouldn't be a problem. It used to mean happy.. now it means miserable sexual deviant. It's funny they get mad at the way people use it when they ruined it to begin with.

Using 'gay' is the least of our worries. Winona Ryder people.

Anderson Cooper should come out of the closet already.

Now, THAT would be helpful to all other gay guys who struggle with their orientation.

Everybody knows he is gay anyway.

If more gay celebs come out, the more accepted the homosexual orientation becomes. It will no longer be such a freakin' big deal.

You have got to be kidding me? Ridiculous. Could Anderson Cooper be any more sensitive? Please.
