Mel Gets $163K Legal Bill From Oksana for ONE Month

1/18/2011 3:05 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Mel Gibson just got a legal bill from one of Oksana Grigorieva's lawyers, and probably thinks the name of the firm is Bend, Over and Pay.

0118_mel_alan_shifman_oksana_tmz_ex

Sources connected with the case tell TMZ ... Alan Shifman (aka lawyer #41) claims he racked up a $163,000 fee for work performed between October 15 and November 15, 2010.  He left the case after feuding with lawyer #39.

We're told Shifman is asking Mel to pay $600 an hour -- that means he worked about 272 hours during the month ... which translates to 9 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As we previously reported, Oksana's attorneys have asked Mel to pay more than $1 million in legal fees.

For Mel, it's even harder to swallow than a Ricky Gervais monologue.

Hiya Curious,

The paper, ink, and file folder remark was my feeble attempt at humor. But it wouldn't surprise me if some slick trick has figured out how to bill for it.

I am not understanding why he is required to pay any of her legal expenses. (Whether they are married or not.) Under what cir***stances, if you sue someone, that person is expected to pay your legal fees. Is this standard procedure?

This has to stop. This man should not be liable for the whore's bills. Let the pig pay them herself or lie on her back and give out freebies. She knows all about that.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE A "REAL" WINNER TO ME!!!

I have to wonder if Mr. Shifman filed any other legal do***ents on behalf of other clients besides Ole Greedy during the same time frame he was representing her. Considering other attorneys were actively involved at the time, I really don't believe that he devoted this much time to her case. 9 hours, 7 days a week! It sounds more like he's billing Mel Gibson for the hours he slept rather than worked during this period. His bill is obviously "inflated" because he knows the court isn't likely to approve payment of the "entire" amount. He'll probably sue Ole Greedy and/or her "lowyers" for the balance.

LOL, your humor is not at all feeble. You've always managed to make me chortle.

I'm afraid I'm just thoroughly sickened by what some people will try to get away with nowadays.

@JW,

In California, there is a law that says that the more affluent party in a FAMILY LAW case is required to pay some or all of the other party's attorneys fees to "level the playing field".

The basis for this is that a wealthy person, can hire the best attorneys and literally keep the other party in court until Hell freezes over, especially when the other party does not have the money to hire attorneys.

This law does not apply to criminal or other types of civil cases. The question has been asked more than once about the extortion and/or civil case involving Oxy. In those cases, Mel would not be liable for any attorney's fees for her.

I hope this answers the question that you and others have asked regarding this issue.

Kinda mean thought, but maybe there is a kickback scheme going on with all of them. I always wondered whether the piano player was setting up a pyramid scheme to sue previous lawyers to pay bills for the current ones.

This is total BS. She should not be able to just go willy nilly through every lawyer in the continental US and make Mel pay for it.

In the old west, "he just deserved to be killed" was a valid defense for murder. In this case I think it would be just. She serves no purpose on this earth except to make life hell for those who have associated with her.

Lawyers use the 3 times the worth rule.......

you want to sell something say a lillipop you buy it for 25 cents to make a profit you gotta sell it for 3 times what you bought it for at least. 25 covering the cost to buy it in the first place, 25 cents to replace it and 25 to 50 cents to make a profit on the whole thing. so the 25 cent lollipop ends up costing a 100 dollar. ......So the lawyer work is really only worth around 53,000 dollars at the most.....LOL

This is total bs I think they are padding the bill and turning some over to her. Like so many here have said they weren't married it isn't fair for these blood sucking lawyers to automatically assume he should pay her bills. Not only shold the child be taken from her she should be deported.

You can thank Miss Oksana for making it a court circus.

I hear you Curious but isn't it the judge who should've put an end to this Ole Greedy's circus to an end by enforcing the agreement as INDISPUTABLE since it was voluntarily signed by both competent parties? Can't get it. They were NOT married, no common property law applied to them, he held to his end so why won't she hold to HERS?

I don't think they can go back to the May 2010 agreement because of too many breaches on the piano player's part. The situation has totally changed.

Hiya Janeny -
Because the issue isn't about dissolution or community property, it's about child custody. And while they had a custody schedule arranged even before the mediation, Miss Oksana suddenly decided that Mr. Mel was unsafe to be with Lucia and took the matter to court.

The kicker is that while she might claim in the May settlement that nothing was agreed because she didn't sign the long form, she most certainly did sign the custody schedule they had worked out before hand.

The release of the recordings, the pictures of her mouth and Lucia's chin, the "fear for my life" and "he beat me during sex" and all the other ka-ka she's been spewing since June is all about proving Mr. Mel is unfit to have custody of Lucia.

She wants full custody; after all, Alexander's support will be running out in a few years, then what will she have to live on?
