Anderson Cooper

Attacked in Egypt

2/2/2011 11:15 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Anderson Cooper and his CNN news crew claim they were punched, kicked and shoved by a violent mob of pro-Mubarak supporters in Cairo early this morning.

Anderson Cooper Attacked
Cooper claims he and his team were trying to get to a spot in between the two sides of protesters in Tahrir Square -- when they were attacked.

Cooper claims the mob tried to break his team's camera -- because they didn't want to be on film --  when the violence escalated and men began to punch members of the news crew in the head.

0202_anderson_cooper_miniAnderson explained, "The instinct is try to punch back ... but in a situation like that you really can't because that just inflames the crowd all the more ... so all we could do is just try to walk as quickly as possible, stay together and seek a safe location which is where we are now."

Atlantaguy: you are an idiot! Anderson, be careful - things are bound to go from bad to worse and I was wondering when violence would break out again.
Probably Mubarack's buddies trying to start trouble so they can have their millitary attack the crowds.
You are a brave man who does his job with integrity and class.
We love you - get home safe.
God Bless the people of Egypt, and may they be rewarded with the same democratic freedom we enjoy here in America. Time for a change.

HAH, how hypocritical. get over yourseleves TMZ computer commenters. The news has been do***ented on camera for a looooong time now, including Vietnam. Oh you're such a great patriot because you believe in protecting peoples right to privacy bla bla bla. ITS ON EVERY STATION IN THE WORLD you moron. Don't blame one man... and uh.. some of us care about what's going on in the world. Sorry we don't live in a "private" world anymore with the advent of facebook and social media. Since you're on this website, a show that violates people's privacy DAILY, you are the biggest hypocrite possible. It's people like you that watch shows like TMZ that need to be punched. Not Anderson.

What did they think was going to happen in Egypt when Mubarak wouldn't step down immediately and instead sends in his thugs dressed as his supporters so he could beat the hell out of the protesters without looking bad? Something like what the Democrats do when they send their SEIU thugs to Tea Party protests to beat the crap out of black conservatives.

I think he's crazy for being there. It's not like him and his crew are the only journalists there. He's a great target for protestors on either side. He could be held for ransom AND a cause. There is a sin as being too high-minded and not seeing reality and dealing with it. His mother must be pissed not proud.

What's with all this "claims this" and "claims that". It is a substitute for straight reporting? Or are you intentionally (and repeatedly) doubting the veracity of the CNN reports?

CNN got first hand experience on how it's not always good to be neutral.

He wasn't whining. But, yes, he should get out of harm's way.
