Lindsay Lohan Gets Merciful Sentence for Theft

5/11/2011 10:20 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lindsay Lohan dodged a huge bullet today  -- she won't be locked up in jail  ... this after pleading no contest to misdemeanor theft.

Lindsay's attorney Shawn Holley entered the plea a few minutes ago -- Lindsay wasn't in court.

Judge Stephanie Sautner said during the hearing, she doesn't believe Lindsay's problem is substance abuse, but rather her problems are more deeply rooted and she is self-medicating to relieve those problems.  As a result, Judge Sautner is not requiring Lindsay to undergo substance abuse counseling.

Lindsay will not get additional time for the theft.  She will be required to serve 120 days for her probation violation, and we've learned the Sheriff's Department  may allow Lindsay to do the time at home, with an electronic monitoring device.

In reality, the 120 days will amount to 14 days.  But during that time, Lindsay cannot leave her home, even to do community service.

Lindsay must complete psychological counseling and a shoplifters alternative class -- seriously.

Once Lindsay completes her 480 hours of community service, her probation in the DUI case will terminate, but Lindsay is now on 3 years probation for the theft -- so if she screws up again, she's screwed.

"if she screws up again, she is screwed." go back and look at how many times you have posted those words before!! count them. she is a horrible, stupid excuse. i really hope young girls do not look up to this idiot, and kids think they can grow up and break any law they want and not EVER have to go to jail for it. that is exactly what lohan has done. any of us would STILL be locked up if we "screwed up" on lohan's very first offense from years ago.

It is insane the number of chances she has gotten. The average person would have been in jail for at least half of their sentence a long time ago!

Question- why is her sentence reduced for overcrowding if she's serving the sentence at home? Shouldn't she have to serve the full 120 days? I don't think she has to deal with overcrowding at home.

Igor 30 minutes ago Speaking from experience (unfortunately), when you get house arrest or work furlough, you do the whole sentance, 120 days

I wish a judge would sentence ME to spend two whole weeks at home--NO working, no errands, no shuttling the kids all over the place, no grocery shopping. Just two glorious weeks, in bed, friends bringing me food and coctails....

I'm assuming the bracelet is only to detect if she leaves--not alcohol detection? The judge essentially just sentenced her stay home and drink and do drugs for two weeks. That'll teach her!

Psychological counseling? Has she been made to do this before? (Really, I'm asking, I don't know) If she hasn't done therapy for something other than detox maybe she might benefit from it?

That is just the WORST form of punishment! How could they do this to her?! I mean, forcing somebody to stay home and take it easy for a couple of weeks?! Oh, the horror!

Must be nice to be a talentless, worthless, drug and drink abusing slut, not really known for anything else. What will they allow her to get away with next?

This is what you get people for paying any attention to celebs. I caught this article of Drudgereport, but I can bet almost everyone else who looks at this article is the kind of moron that worships celebs and gives them the attention. It's ridiculous as a person with any gray matter to be so interested in people that simply have better jobs and lives than yourselves BECAUSE you are stupid enough to give them attention. Ignore them and they go away. That's a fact. Now go get a real hobby, job or something else in life worth doing and put your attention somewhere more worthwhile!

When I first read house arrest / no jail time I thought, no way! Well, why am I surprised? She has got to be the luckiest girl in hollywood. If she hasn't learned her lesson by now, she never will. Oh yea, unless the lesson is real laws and rules don't apply to me.

She'll use a dirty needle one too many times with her rampant heroin addiction, then where will she be?
