Police:

Ryan Dunn

Crashed at 130 MPH

6/21/2011 4:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Dunn was doing 130 miles-per-hour in his Porsche at the time of the horrible crash that killed the "Jackass" star and his passenger -- this according to West Goshen police.

Police Chief Michael Carroll told reporters an accident reconstruction team determined the speed of the crash after inspecting the accident scene. Officials say Dunn's car collided with a guardrail at high speed, crashed in the woods and burst into flames.

According to Carroll, the crash was catastrophic -- claiming he's "never seen a car destroyed in an automobile accident the way this car was ... even before it caught on fire."

Carroll called the accident the "worst" he's ever seen ... by far.

@tman

In America even if he was to have killed somebody else and survived...killed 50 people while drunk driving and surived. Nobody in America has been sentenced to death for killing somebody while drunk driving. So whether here nor there of what peoples stance is you should petition all 50 states that disgree with you, while you attempt to put manslaughter as a capital offense. Or move to Iran where you have more support.

Mr. Know it All-

It all comes down to personal responsibility. Hartwell had been drinking with him that night, he knew that Ryan Dunn was under the influence. If he chose to let a drunk driver drive him, the same way that someone chose to drive allegedly drunk, it falls under the same umbrella.

@ who cares

Simply saying that to die instantly from impact and then essentially be cremated is one thing. To survive for a while as alot of intoxicated people to and be finished off by fire is another. I think anyone with common sense would prefer one over the other. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Sad sad

I see a second row of skid marks in the photos is that from police/firetruck etc or another vehicle unknown? Was wondering if they were racing and maybe he got nicked by the other car. At first it looked like he was trying to take that turn last minute and missed.

Man you guys F*cking suck. This guy died and all you guys can post are idiotic comments about how he deserved it. They cant know for sure if he was going 130. They also don't know if he was drunk driving. Don't you think death is a harsh punishment enough and then you guys have to go slander a dead man? A Porsche is not car accident friendly anyways.... He's dead leave him alone.

@ check-it-out...

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Smoke in lungs, not a happy way to go.

Seriously, though, in Jack-Ass logic it would be the final extreme rush of a high - The thrill-seeker instinct craves to know the absolute limit, the edge, and he found it. The survivors of the tribe learn from that edge, and they might (hopefully) modify their behavior accordingly.

As he lost consciousness, he probably thought "I wonder what happens next?" Almost like a fighter pilot or astronaut, his self-inflicted training had him aware of every sensation.

Right now, Ryan Dunn has some answers that most religions crave. We can only hope he found some value in his early demise.

With that being said, I'm not someone who's going to say completely insensitive things over the loss of these two lives, because that is completely classless. I hope the two men rest in peace.

As for all the critics showing no remorse whatsoever for the loss of these lives, you would be hypocrites if you have ever done something in your life that is illegal or lacked judgment.

No one will ever know what happend except those 2 guys. He coulda had a hearattack and his foot stuck to the pedal, he coulda passed out. He coulda been doing it on purpose, he coulda been instigated by the passanger. No one will ever know. Show some respect toward the families.

Sue the bar. Set precedence. Have stricter drunk driving laws?

Nancy, you are an idiot! Just because someone appears sober or thinks they're sober does not make it so. A sumo wrestler would be over the legal limit after 6 beers in 30 minutes. You and your friend are part of the problem; you're clueless and I don't care if you kill yourselves, but I do care about the innocent people you may take with you when you drive drunk. It is not hip or cool to drink and drive, it is just stupid!
