Gruesome Details In Death of NBA Player

7/21/2011 7:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The family of murdered NBA star Lorenzen Wright is suing officials in Germantown, TN -- claiming it wouldn't have taken police 9 days to find his corpse if cops would simply have had Internet access.

Wright was shot and killed in July 2010. A witness called 911 during the shooting ... but the caller never disclosed Wright's location. Still, Wright's family believes cops should have tracked the origin of the call with a common Internet program ... which would have allowed them to quickly locate Wright and possibly save his life.

Instead, it took cops 9 days to find Wright's body -- and by that time, the family claims ... "the exposure to the elements including substantial rain, extreme heat, indigenous animals and insects had reduced the remains from roughly 225 lbs to 57 lbs."

So why didn't the cops have Internet access???? Wright's family claims officials had BLOCKED the police from using online programs because certain officers had been abusing their web access.

Wright's family is devastated -- and wants the city to fork over more than $2 million in damages.

Wright was 34 years old at the time of his death. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

That's sad if a police department doesn't have internet access.

In other words...his money that they had access to is starting to dry up...so now they have to start up the "sue mill" to maintain their lifestyle.

So the cops were looking at porn so they stop using the internet .. why not fire the cops and try to find men , which I know will be hard , who can control themselves ..

I would be upset too if I was his family. No internet access??? I dunno about the life being saved part, but maybe police could have at least found his body sooner and maybe collected better evidence that rain or what have you probably washed away.

No offense, Stiletto, but every comment you make is racist or sexist. Are you a real redneck or do you just comment like one?

This is ridiculous. There is software used by employers everywhere that block pornography, social and other websites. Another solution would be to put computers in a common area. I really doubt this story. It would be impossible to do any police work these days without Internet access.

What a stupid lawsuit, when you call 911 your address is displayed to the 911 dispatcher or area PSAP in the event you don't give your location or you cannot speak. This is not a case of "the cops should have searched for the number" this is a case of the caller being on a cell phone that didn't have GPS. This will get tossed out on day 1.

You have too admit =, that's pretty pathetic that a police department would disconnect their Internet service because some of the cops are still working through their adolescence. What, do they expect someone to call from a PAY PHONE or LAND LINE? This 2011 for heaven sake... I know for a fact the most of Tennessee has indoor plumming, electricity, Walmart and cellular telephones.

To Nanny:
I'm as left politically as you can get and I don't see Stiletto's comments as either racist or sexist. The reality is this is a story because somebody's trying to MAKE it a story. Why? Only one reason I can see, to soften up the ground to get sympathy for potential jurors.

My question to the family is this: had he been found in the first few hours, would he be any less dead? Nope.

And to reiterate Stiletto's intimation: payday's over folks. This lawsuit will be tossed very quickly.
