Ricki Lake

Malibu House Fire Lawsuit

Slowed Down By 'Dancing'

10/23/2011 5:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

1021_ricki_lake_ex_tmzSafe to say the guy suing Ricki Lake for allegedly burning down his Malibu mansion is NOT a fan of  "Dancing With the Stars" ... because he claims the show has derailed his lawsuit!

According to docs filed last month, the owner, Hovsep Kousouyan, has been trying to get Lake to sit for a deposition for months ... but she claims she can't because of her commitment to  "DWTS."

Kousouyan's lawyers claim they've offered up at least eight different dates -- including nights and weekends -- but Lake's attorneys have repeatedly said she's unavailable until December.

Sources close to Lake tell TMZ she has no problem sitting down for the depo ... she's just been working seven days a week on "DWTS." We're told he lawyers are working on setting a date.

Kousouyan says he's out $20,000 a month on lost rent, so Lake could be on the hook for a HUGE chunk of change.

Lake was renting the house in September 2010, when she tried re-filling a portable heater with oil and accidentally spilled it on the hot coils, which then ignited the sofa on fire which in turn casued a mega-blaze.

YO crackheads. It's called INSURANCE, WHY? Because accidents happen. Stop acting like she did this on purpose. No body is questioning WHY a portable heater was being used in such a lavish place?

I mentioned that she should have had renters insurance, but the point was also made that the POS landlord should have had the rat hole insured... Grant it, she's responsible for the damage sh caused, but if his cheap ass didn't have insurance and haven't repaired the shack by now, then that's his fault. She's not holding him up from doing his part.

If I was a honest [not a California 1st Circus Celebrity Judge] I would rule that the case be thrown out because the shack apparently did not have adequate heating [I"m assuming that] he not be awarded anything for lost rent since he apparently didn't have the required insurance to make the repairs to rent.

but on the other hand, Ricky knew the heating situation when she moved in and if she didn't, she did later and should have demanded a safe source of heat be installed --- Hell, for $20,000/month.

Bottom line, they're both tools.

Has anyone thought it might have been an accident, you know a lot of us women do not know how to do things and we just try the best we can. Although I cannot understand why she would be renting for $20,000 a month, what is wrong with her. She could also have bought another heater, think about it.

Is this guy some kind of idiot? Where was the insurance? And he should have fixed this house as soon as possible! and it should have been rented to someone else, before January of 2011!!! Then he could sue for the cost of repair! But leaving the house vacant is HIS problem!! Oh! And I am not a fan of Ricki Lake. She's lost twenty pounds? Needs to lose at least another forty! Just my opinion.

Why was Chas Bono referred to as a "Penguin" when he danced in a tuxedo and Riki Lake was not referred to as "Big Bird" or the "Yellow Submarine" when she danced in that bright yellow dress (which did nothing for her but show that she is not a size 4)? If any of the other females on the show had danced in that same dress there would have been all kinds of comments made by the three judges that should be thrown off the show for judges that don't show how partial they are to just one of the dancers.
