'Swamp People' Star

A Boat Saved My Life

in Massive 5-Car Pile-Up

5/2/2012 12:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

For the millionth time, "Swamp People" star Joe LaFont's life was spared by a boat -- except this time ... it wasn't in gator-infested marshlands ... it was on an Arkansas highway.

As we previously reported, LaFont and his gator-hunting stepson Tommy Chauvin were nearly killed on Monday in a nasty 5-car pile-up near the Arkansas-Louisiana state border -- when a tractor-trailer (below) rammed the truck behind him.

According to LaFont, the truck behind him was towing a boat -- and that's the reason he's still alive.

LaFont tells us, when the tractor-trailer hit the boat, it turned the truck sideways -- and the truck T-boned Joe rather than barreling straight through him.

0430_swamp_people_APJoe tells us, "If it wasn't for the boat, I would have been killed ... It was like a bomb went off."

According to Joe, his F-150 and its attached cargo trailer were totaled in the wreck.

Joe didn't suffer any serious injuries -- but he says his neck and shoulders have been bothering him since the crash ... so he's visiting a doctor later today.

Joe says he does not plan to sue.

Killing gators for meat? Come on now! CostCo and WalMarts are everywhere these days! Ever try Google maps? Certainly they will get you to your nearest grocer. Than you can find a real JOB!

Well done for getting out of that one alive, it looks like everyone should have died. Well done for not suing too. You could guarantee that if it was Joe who caused the crash, he'd have lawyers on his ass already.

There's a problem here

Is it just me or does anyone else think these swamp people look like they have some serious B.O. and would greatly benefit from a weekly shower?

Joke, that's the reason you never stop on the busy road to catch a gator.

I'm not a sue happy person, but he needs to sue in this case. His property was totaled and it wasn't his fault. It's legally the responsibility of whoever strikes from behind. If at least one of those is commercial, they should have very good insurance. Two second rule, people...unless you're in a big, heavy truck...then make it more.

Gator meat makes good burgers. Had it once, didn't taste like chicken, but I felt like the gator's momma was going to hunt me down and eat me.

BOYCOTT

Yea! The boat being carried by FOUR LOUISIANA men saved YOUR life. All hurt, some of them STILL in the hospital...with very critical injuries. Yet somehow all TMZ and the media cares about is the Swamp People merchandise lost! How morally & ethically revolting is this?! They are also failing to mention that ONLY Tommy eventually helped other victims of this wreck! BOYCOTT TRAPPER JOE!!!

Really disappointed to see that the media is focused on the "Swamp People" and their merchandise in this story! Their lives were saved because the truck behind them took the force of the hit! Where is the mention of those guys who were actually hurt in this 5-car pile up? Are the ratings for this show bad enough that they have to embellish the facts for attention?

I am shocked and disgusted by the fact that the only people mentioned in this accident were the so called celebrities. NOTHING is mentioned about the 4 people that were seriously injured in the truck that was actually the first vehicle hit by the 18 wheeler which was carrying the boat that "saved" Joe's life. What's missing from this so called "news" is the fact that 4 young men were seriously injured, 1 of which is still in the hospital - what is missing from this "story" is how ONLY Tommy ( Swamp People ) went and helped the driver of the truck that was rear ended by the 18 wheeler, cut out the young man that was still unconscious and had to be air lifted to the hospital. Nothing is mentioned about how out of the 4 young men in the truck that was hit first - 2 of them were airlifted to the hospital and 2 were sent by ambulance. So called celebrity merchandise such as t-shirts and caps being scattered on the road is NOT a tragedy. What is missing is that no one knew if the guys who were airlifted were going to make it or not. The 4 that are REALY suffering are the ones that were pulling that boat. THEIR boat not only saved THEIR life, but also the lives of others. What is missing is any menntion of the courage and heroism of the driver of the truck that pulled his 3 friends out of what remained of his truck and then he was taken by ambulance b/c of his own injuries. Joe "says" he's NOT filing a Law-suit YET, give Joe time, I bet his "celebrity" status gets the best of him b/c it seems he was more concerned with his merchandise than he was with assisting with the ones who were being airlifted and who's lives were in the hands of those who ACTUALLY cared. I will NEVER watch SWAMP PEOPLE again and I will make sure that everyone I know hears the TRUTH about what REALLY happened in that accident. Why didn't TMZ post the picks of the truck with the 4 young men that was hit first - there's literally NOTHING left to it and NO ONE that sees the pics understands how they made it out alive. TMZ Celebrity GOSSIP - that's the ONLY thing that is correct in the headline - GOSSIP - not TRUTH.

I can not believe the HATERS THAT POSTED ON THIS. TRAPPER JOE AND TOMMY ARE NOT THE MEDIA. IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT, THE MEDIA CHOOSE TO LEAVE THE REST OF THE MEN OUT THE STORY. YALL ALL SOUND LIKE A BUNCH OF KIDS. REALLY, ITS NOT SWAMP PEOPLES FAULT THE MEDIA DIDNT DO THEIR JOB.
