'The Lone Ranger'

Crew Member Dead

Drowns on Movie Set

9/21/2012 11:45 AM PDT UPDATED: 9/21/2012 2:28 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

1:10PM PST Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the movie wasn't being shot today, and the person who died in the tank was prepping it -- possibly cleaning it -- when someone noticed no bubbles from the gear were surfacing. That's when they pulled the man out of the water.

A Walt Disney spokesperson just confirmed our story, saying, "We regretfully confirm that a Lone Ranger crew member has passed away after being taken to a local hospital," adding "our full support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this terrible event."

2:28PM PST Law enforcement sources tell us, it appears he had a heart attack. Investigators are treating it as a "natural death." An autopsy will be completed over the weekend.

A crew member working on the new Johnny Depp movie "The Lone Ranger" died this morning after drowning on the set and going into full cardiac arrest ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... the man was a diver who was working in a tank on the Los Angeles set ... when something went wrong.

We're told someone on the crew called 911 to report a medical emergency ... and when responders arrived to the scene the man was in full cardiac arrest.

He was helicoptered to a nearby hospital, but EMTs were unable to restart his heart on the flight. Law enforcement sources tell us he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

That's no Lone Ranger. What's with the dead bird on the head? The lone Ranger was Clayton Moore with Jay Silverheels as Tonto. Anything else is totally bogus and just a fugazi. Sorry about the dead guy. R.I.P.

Your article is confusing??? Sounds like he drowned because he had a heart attack. So your should have put on the header "Crew member has heart attack and drowns in tank.."

Another movie reboot? A cool readapt would be Dr. J & Mr. H. I'd love to see the special effects on that one. Like out of "The League of Extraordinary Gentleman."

My condolences go out to the family. May he rest in peace.

Also, I think it's extremely disrespectful that many people have the nerve to insult either Johnny Depp, the writer of this article, or the idea that this man wasn't very important. Someone has lost their life and that is reason enough to overlook one's opinions and offer their sympathies to the family. Although, I do agree that it was a terrible idea to bold and enlarge the font of the headline; incredibly rude.

Why on earth are headlines such as these written as if the Disney corporation deliberately plotted this man's death? Do the editors (if, indeed, there are any) REALLY think no one will read the article unless the headline is sensationalized? This could have occurred any time, any place. It happened to have occurred at the filming of a movie. That doesn't mean that the Disney franchise caused it.
