Phillip Phillips
' family says the singer left them high and dry after winning "American Idol" -- refusing to help them out financially -- and now, they've been forced to sell their cherished family business ... Phillips family sources tell TMZ.

The Phillips family-owned Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn -- which has been in the family for 24 years -- is scheduled to hit the auction block on December 1st ... and we're told, Phillip's dad hopes to use the profits to cover the family's mounting debt.

We're told Phillip's dad hopes to bring in between $200,000-250,000 during the auction.

We're told Phillip's family has reached out multiple times to the singer for financial help since he hit it big, but Phil has blown them off.

According to Phillips family sources, the family's especially hurt by the singer's radio silence -- since they spent a ton of money on travel expenses so they could see Phillip compete on "Idol."

We made multiple calls to Phillip Phillips over several days -- but our calls were not returned.

What would they have done if he didn't win?

He has yet to become a big star and if he is like most Idol winners, he does not have the money to give them.
Also, you have to wonder why he is expected to support his family, and we do not know his family dynamics. Until you do, you don't have the right to judge.

they are calling him a star, but is he really? i mean did he win the year he was on , and how much did that net him, and havent heard an album or a hit record, yes they are his family, but while perhaps trying to help-he is not responsible for his parents business failure or for trying to get them out of it---as hes young and starting out himself

its like kid celebs, that get older and parent quit working and expect to be supported all their lives by the kids---that a lot of pressure---lindsay lohan has two prints who are hanger on expecting her to pay bills or selling info on her for $$$...and ou wonder why she has issues!

Since when are parents entitled to their children’s money or are adult children owed money from their parents. Everyone should stand on their own two feet. If someone chooses to be magnanimous – great. However, it shouldn’t be an entitlement. We appear to be living in a society where people expect to be taken care of by others. I put three children through college, and they all have good jobs now. I do not expect them to give me a cent. I didn’t sacrifice (believe me it was a sacrifice) to get something in return. What parent would go to TMZ to whine about their children? Someone is sleazy – perhaps not the son.

It is not Phillips responsibility to "bail" out his family. He is a grown man and has made a way for himself. This economy is poor and a lot of family businesses are crashing. They should be proud of Phillip for winning and going out into this uncertain world on his own. I would never ask my child to give me money to pay off "my" debt! That is silly and it is not what we should be teaching our young people. Parents are responsible for their kids until they are 18. After that, if they want to help them they can but they should not be expected to. The same goes for kids. When they turn 18, they should either be on their own, in college or in the military. They should not be expected to bail out mom and dad unless they want to. They shouldn't be expected to. Many of you will not like this comment but think about it. If you keep giving stuff to your kids they won't learn to be on their own. That is the real problem now a days. We are in such an "entitlement" society that we expect to be given stuff. It doesn't work that way folks. When we are given everything, we get lazy and expect it. Yes, it is sad to see a family business die but look at where we are right now. This nation is running on a wing and a prayer. People are out of work, many people are on food stamps and a lot of people have given up on searching for work.

No poster knows what the family was like before this "windfall". If the family was dysfunctional, toxic, abusive, etc., I do not think he should give in to this public attempt at blackmail.

I'm calling BS on the entire story. Anyone who watched Idol realized how close this family is to each other. Stupid.

Ridiculous they'd expect him to save the business they clearly drove into the ground before he won. Big deal they spent money to travel to see him, he's their son of course they would go see him. Sad they expect to be paid for their love.

White trash...my parents would never hound me for money no matter how successful I was...and to try and shame him in public for their own financial problems they created is disgraceful.Keep your own money Phil because your career probably won't last long.
