Randy Travis

I've Given Up Booze

... FOR GOOD!

Randy Travis is officially ON THE WAGON -- this according to his lawyer who tells TMZ the singer has “eliminated alcohol from his daily life.”

You know the history ... the troubled 53-year-old wound up behind bars several times in the past year after multiple booze-related arrests (naked DWI, public intoxication, assault).

Now, Randy's lawyer, Larry Friedman, tells TMZ … Travis has acknowledged the problem ... and decided to 86 the liquor from his life so he could focus on improving his health.

“[Randy] works out 3 hours every day and is in the best shape of his life,” Friedman says … adding, “He has a high protein diet and takes a lot of vitamins.”

Besides his new workout obsession, Friedman says Randy is determined to get his groove back – and hit up a recording studio in Texas last week to start laying down some new tracks.

No word if Travis is planning on releasing a new album anytime soon ... but given the last 12 months of his life, he's definitely got enough material for a classic country song.

Love Randy's music and admire him immensely for all he did for the victims of the Cerro Grande fire here in New Mexico. I wish him the very best in all his endeavors throughout his life.

While it's great Randy has eliminated alcohol from his life- I pray he's in intensive therapy as well. Working out 3 hours a day is also wonderful, but if that was the antithesis or cure of alcoholism, every former drunk would look like Charles Atlas.

So how often is he drinking then? When he adds the phrase "daily life" it suggests he still drinks, just not every day. For example, alcohol isn't a part of my daily life, but I have a drink or two per week. Unlike him I'm not an alcoholic however.

Excercise, vitamins..yada yada. He is still a drunk. You don't stay sober by watching a Jane Fonda workout DVD.

If sense were common everyone would have it.

I hope so. The last thing the world needs is another alcoholic a**hole drunk driving celebrity. But he still has to pay the piper as far as his DUIs. Good luck to him. Stay clean, stay free.

This guy is another accident waiting to happen...he is a drunk who fails to realize he is a drunk. He has a troubled past and tries to drown out his ugly past with booze. If he continues living like a drunk we will be reading his obituary in the newspapers.
