Australian Radio Station

Donating $500K in Guilt

Money to Nurse's Family

12/11/2012 6:38 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

1211_2day_memorial_fund_Artice_2The Australian radio station responsible for the prank phone call that led to British nurse Jacintha Saldanha's suicide ... is planning to give her family about half a million bucks.

The corporation that owns 2DayFM announced it will donate all the station's advertising profits for the rest of the year to a fund set up to support Saldanha's 2 teenage children and husband.

The company estimates the total donation will be around 320,000 British pounds ... or roughly $500,000.

2DayFM's generous donation comes the day after it pulled the plug on the show that placed the prank call to Kate Middleton's hospital room ... with one of its DJs pretending to be Queen Elizabeth.

Saldanha transferred the call to Kate's room, and was found dead near the hospital a few days later.

Listen the radio hosts were fired. I really do not believe that they are responsible for this women's death. She killed herself because she put a phone call through? BS Obviously she was off her rocker a bit to begin with. A sane person would not kill themselves over this period. This story is now too big and I'm really beginning to think the woman was a selfish **** for killing herself in the first place. She has a family for Pete's sake. Nut.

I have zero sympathy for the nurse who CHOSE to take her OWN life because of a PRANK!! So many people go through SO MUCH worse and manage to pull through. I feel sorry for her husband, her children and the dj who disn't sign up for this. It was a joke! Taking your own life isn 't. Shane on her leaving all this behind. Whatever.

"Be kind because everyone you meet is fighting a battle".

This is a lesson. Even if we as outsiders maybe dont understand the nurse decision to commit suicide it teaches ut that we never know what a person struggles with. Thats why everyone need to be kind.

Ive read articles saying the nurse was humiliated by the prank call. god knows if she had other struggles as well.

To the DJs, you cant humiliate someone in the name of entertainment without there being consequences.

screwing around with private medical information should be criminal, thanks to these two it will become even more difficult for families and friends to get information about loved ones as the knee jerk politicians make a flurry of new laws.

This woman committed suicide because of a phone call, I think she must have had a lot more problems than this.

Yeah this nurse is a selfish idiot who cared more about her pride then her family. I have zero sympathy.

Actions have consequences. No the DJs didn't make the lady take her life, but their selfish actions caused her undue additional stress which led to her death.

The fact is this Radio Station, put this woman, a private citizen up for international ridicule and this has ultimately led to her not being able to handle it and killing herself.

o all those saying that this lady should have gotten over it..unless you have been in such a situation where you are in your place of work doing your normal job and something like this happens you have absolutely no idea how you would deal with it.

and I don't think these two are responsible for her death . . . I'm sorry she felt so humiliated that the only way out was death, so sad, so unnecessary.

So this woman acts in a completely selfish way and kills herself and abandons her two children and then gets rewarded by getting half a million? Bull****, the station owes nothing, they did nothing wrong, it was a joke and just because a clearly emotionally troubled woman killed herself it doesn't make it their fault. The only bad guy in this matter is the nurse who decided to make life harder for her children and will leave them emotional scars and nightmares that will last them a lifetime. She is the one to blame not them.
