Jewish organizations around the world are furious with the Ukrainian government ... after a Ukrainian politician used an Anti-Semitic slur in a Facebook rant about Mila Kunis.

The man who set off the controversy is lawmaker Igor Miroshnichenko -- who had written that Mila (a Jew who was born in the Ukraine) is not a true Ukrainian because she's a "zhydovka" ... a word that has been used as a slur against Jewish people since the Holocaust.

After protests by Ukrainian Jews, the Ukrainian government announced the word was OK to use because it appears in the Ukrainian dictionary as a term for a Jew that isn't necessarily a slur.

Now, the famous Simon Wiesenthal Center in L.A. is getting involved -- firing off a letter to the Prime Minister of the Ukraine to "express our outrage and indignation against the slanders of the Svoboda Party directed against the Jewish community in the Ukraine."

In the letter, Rabbi Marvin Hier explains ... the term "zhydovka" translates to "dirty Jewess" ... and was used as an "insidious slur invoked by the Nazis and their collaborators as they rounded up the Jews to murder them at Babi Yar and in the death camps."

The org. has called on the Prime Minister to "publically condemn this attack and to take measures to defeat the xenophobic forces that threaten your democracy."

We reached out to Kunis for comment -- so far, no word back.

I don't know what else he said, and what the context was, but the word zhydovka is simply a term for Jewish female. The only reason that it could have a negative connotation is because back in the day the word "Jewish" was considered a negative. But that is obviously no longer the case, and zhydovka means a Jewish female, there is no other word for it. I assume what the jacked up politician was saying is that she can't be full blooded Ukrainian is she is of Jewish decent. Jewish people migrated around Europe and other regions, so they were considered "foreign" regardless of the country they were born in. He's got issues, but words mean what they mean.

Careful TMZ.... "zhydovka" and " "zhyd are pejoratives ("slurs") in Russian and apparently Ukranian - but *not* in *all* Salvic languages and *not* in all of Europe... . In some Slavic languages, they are the proper nouns for a Jewish woman or man (respectively) and not pejorative such that saying " "zhyd" carries no more offensive or pejorative connotation than the words "Chinese", "Canadian", "Mexican", "German", etc.

p.s. for those commenters saying that the word is not racist it is merely a factual descriptive word for Jewish female - the whole POINT of having a dedicated word for Jewish female is bc it's a slur - it is to point out the status of an individual as Jewish, to demean them, to incite hatred against them. There is not an equivalent word for Russian Orthodox Christian woman, white woman, etc - bc that is considered the norm. There are only words for Jewish woman, black woman, muslim woman etc. To say they are factual with no negative value is to insult the intelligence of the readers.

Once again, not an intelligent comment in here. Why does TMZ have this new format now where all these pessimistic haters can have an audience? I think most of the comments on here are just ridiculous. If you don't like the stories, stay the hell off the website and go back to watching Jerry Springer!
