Drew Brees

The NFL Is Far from Fixing Concussion Problem

Long-term brain damage remains a serious issue among NFL players ... and the league still has LOTS of work to do in order to fix it ... so says New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees.

Brees said, "I think it's a major issue. It's something that we need to continue to put research [into] and treatment protocols at the forefront to try to find ways to treat guys that have those long-term head and neck injuries when they leave this game."

He added, "It is definitely a serious problem."

You'll recall, pro football has recently come under intense scrutiny for its long-term health risks -- following the high-profile suicides of several NFL stars like Junior Seau. The deaths have been attributed to a brain disease stemming from injuries the players sustained during their careers.

Last week, Adrian Peterson -- one of the greatest running backs of all time -- said he would never let his son play the game.

Even President Obama has said he would have to think twice about whether he would let a son of his play football due to the health risks.

The NFL has diverted a lot of resources to address the problem ... but not much has been done ... and the players are getting pissed. 2,700 players have already sued the league, claiming the NFL intentionally kept the long-term dangers of playing football a secret.

If sense were common everyone would have it.

It will never be resolved 100%. You may be able to make the most highly advanced helmet in the world, but no matter how advanced it is, it will not prevent the brain from constantly smashing into the inside of the skull.

Brees, this is football you moron and it's time to stop blaming everyone else for your lack of common sense. You are playing a full contact sport, you get hit a lot, HARD! You have to be a complete idiot to think you can keep doing this for years and not develop all sorts of problems from this. You also can never trust team doctors when they tell you nothing will happen and you're good to go back in the game. The focus here should be on those kinds of practices, where they are pumping the players with drugs so they get a false feeling that they are ok to keep going and in doing so making things much worse much faster. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the NFL, they have done a lot of poor things to the players over the years but these players need to use that mush between their ears a little too before they mess themselves up and then try and blame everyone else for it.

en Todo Momento!!

maybe the parents of the once children who plugged their kids into these dangerously competitive sports need to take responsibility for their actions, and take care of their sons who are now brain damaged, possibly due to excessive performance drug use as well. you can't blame everyone else for your failures or personal problems. go apply for ssi like all other normal physically impaired do, and stop thinking you deserve more than everyone else because you chose to put on that social status enhancing jersey. stop pretending like you didn't understand the risks. this is really getting pathetic.

Someone I knew died of a head injury he sustained during football practice. I do not, however, blame the football league. Yes, now they're warning players. But if my brother ever got hit and suffered something as small as a headache, I'd take him to go see the doctors. As you should.
